Default 86 struts with turbo spindles?

So I've been working on this rebuild project for quite some time now (going on a year) and I think i would like to go ahead and upgrade to turbo brakes.

I know i need the spindles and rotors from an 86 turbo, but do i need turbo strut housings. I have early offset, but the car is an 86 so it is technically a late car.

if i get spindles from an 86 turbo will i have any problems with the fitment to the strut housing? I have heard of earlier cars needing to modify the eccentric bolt hole, which i would not want to do.

I have brand new koni yellow inserts and a paragon coilover kit that i was going to put on my trimmed and repainted stock strut housings. will i need to just go ahead and try to source some turbo strut housings as well? did the turbos even come with rebuild able strut housings?

I don't know, but if you do need strut housings let me no. I have a pair from my 86 turbo just sitting in the way. I'll sell them for 50 bucks plus shipping.

ok it looks like i might need turbo strut housings... which sucks because they are not rebuild able, which means my brand new koni inserts would be useless...

I thought the 86 struts would accept the koni inserts?

my housings do take them. but i think even in 86, the turbos had sealed strut housings.

if not then i may be in luck.

they were sealed, but as far as I know, you chop them up and insert the ..... inserts.

you need a different type of insert that has a bolt that goes into the bottom of the insert to hold it in the housing. the rebuild able ones have a threaded portion near the top so you can screw on a piece that holds the insert in there.

The NA spindles are wider than the turbo spindles, so you need to add a thin shim on the inside edge of the shock where the spindle mounts. No big deal. I have a modified set at the shop that I can take pictures of if you want to see it.

Here is a set that I am doing a coilover conversion on. This set was originally built by Don Istook and used on his track car (if you have seen him drive, you know he is...um....not gentle on the track, lol).
