Okay, this jibes with my expectations. I'll give it a go and post the results...

Easy off will take your paint off. Listen to people who have first hand experience. Carb cleaner and wax immediately after taking all of it off. It takes me about 2 minutes to get everything off.

I spraypainted a toyota camary that was sitting at my other house for 4 years. The decided it was going to get donated to charity so I took the weiners i spraypainted off using this method.

Worked quite well, and the weiners were on there for almost a month

Lacquer thinner won't hurt well cured urethane but I'd try it on some out of the way place first.
The shop I used to work at used lac thinner to remove pinstripe adhesive residue all the time never any trouble.

Agreed, thinner will work as well. I suggested the acetone since that is a primary ingredient in lacquer thinner and evaporates quicker so less chance of him making a mistake. Btw, for the others that posted, a claybar will work but it will require a lot more time and effort. Why work hard when you can work smart? Claybar is intended to remove overspray, not full on painted areas.

Ouch. Brake cleaner didn't do it without a ton of elbow grease. I think I may just take this thing to a body shop...

Brake cleaner isn't a good solvent for paint. Lacquer thinner or acetone...or you can always try the easy off as several others recommended. Body shop will be $$, trust me on that one.

I guess tried and true experience with carburetor cleaner is not even worth a try to you. Don't know what to tell ya.

Huh???

I could think of 100 other reasons not to paint a car with a rattle can.
Who would do such a thing?

There is a few threads where people praise painting their cars with rattle cans. Do a search and you will be amazed.

LOL! I think rattle can can look pretty good, if you know what you're doing!

It looks good until it gets some gas or carburetor cleaner on it...
