Default First Suspension Upgrades - Yes I know...

Alright so this had been beaten to death but I didn't really find definitive answers I wanted. When I start to make money this winter I'm gonna want to put it into the 944. The first logical step seems like suspension. I'm thinking about m030 sways, and some sort of new shocks/struts all around and some nice springs for the front. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm gonna be using this car on the street 100% of the time, but I don't mind a bit of a stiff ride. I will probably upgrade my seats in the near future, once I get richer (or less poor). What would be more cost effective, M474 or M030 struts/shocks? (or something else entirely). What lb spring do you guys recommend? Will I have to get that geometry correcting RennBay kit if I do all this? Thanks in advance.

I am currently going through the same process. Here is a link to the most useful site I have found for 944 specific suspension information. I you follow all of the links, there is a wealth of information here. IMHO the best thing you could do is try someone else's car with the setup(s) you think you might want.

I guess I should consider my car as being 'rare' since it doesn't have the Koni suspension.

Glad you found it helpful. Layout is bizzare, but there is some really good information there, not to mention pics of things rarely seen like M030 968 rear coilovers and the cup suspension

Why spend money on upgraded sways (beyond renewing the bushings) on a 100% street driven car? I'd renew all the bushings and get new dampers and keep the rest stock.

Cool,
I had that site linked, but lost it. Not I have it back. Even now after knowing what I do it is a nice reference.

Seems like this link my be helpful for several people in all the recent suspension threads. Does anyone know if there is a way to sticky stuff like this at the top of the forum so people can get some background? Seems like a lot of questions could be answered if the tools were there for people to do some research on their own.

Not getting new sways would cut down on cost- you don't think I'd notice a difference? Bushings are mad simple too, so you're saying for a street car I should stick to new dampeners, struts, springs and bushings?

Since your car is only going to be used on the streets for shocks/struts i would recommend Koni's all around. Since they are adjustable you can tune them to exactly where you want them. As stated before if it's a street car upgrading the sways is unnecessary. Bilsteins (either HD's or sport) are also another solid shock/strut for a street car. Better springs would not be a bad idea either. And as everyone has stated just replaced the sway bushings.

If you want to save on sways, pick up a used 26.8mm front and 18mm rear. Sways (sized correctly) can make a huge difference regardless of where a car is driven. If I were you, and your struts/shocks/springs are not in dangerously poor shape, I would replace the sways first. One of the best suspension mods you can do for the price and ease of install. I have seen the 26.8mm front and 18mm rear sell on Ebay recently for about $40 ea.
