Default My porsche exploded.

yup. I started it up about an hour ago... slight clicking noise... then BOOM! fire everwhere.

it took the fire department a good 15 minutes to put out the flames. Its definitely totaled. they ripped the hood off with an axe. I suggest we all take a moment of silence for the loss of a beautifully restored 951.

Anybody have an experience with insurance claims and these cars? will they try to screw me, or will i get enough $$$ to possibly get another?

Perhaps remove your sig pic... but I will observe a moment of silence for fear that mine will do the same thing when I get it back together.

I dunno what happened. the motor is burned beyond recognition. Its seems the fire started towards the back of the intake manifold. the heat in that spot was so intense it burned all the paint off the hood.

I always worry about this after working on my 951. Were you working on the car prior to the fire?

pics?

Wouldn't the engine itself be ok though? Salvageable Block/head/cam etc? All the rubber and stuff is gone but the fire couldnt be hot enough to warp aluminum could it?

Damn.... sorry dude....
It can get real hot in there but I think you may still have a pretty good shot at saving the engine...
As long as the fire wasn't an oil fire started from a rod blowing through the case or something.......
Oil fires are nasty hot.
Good luck...
JC
