Default She crapped out on me!

I spent a minute or so getting the steering wheel adjusted, then went for a test drive. I didnt get 2 blocks from the house, and she just went down- no acceleration then started surging.

So i pull in a neighbors driveway to get the hell back home...I get nowhere, it idles fine, but as soon as you try to give it gas -blah- So I turned off the headlights and boom she was good as new, and I got the hell home!

I know the battery is junk, has been for awhile, but would that alone cause the problem, or has the alternator been taking more punishment due to the pos battery?

Either way, im replacing both, going with an Optima battery, but dont know which cables to use, if it were any other car id hit up farm n barn, but i want something that will last and perform.

Clean all the grounds as well..

Danny, you have enough parts to create 3 whole 944's there!

Your other batteries may be too tall - may hit the hood on the top of the battery.

The 944 battery is very short - don't recall the size offhand, a search should find that, but you should be able to find it at almost any store that carries car batteries.

I would really like to go with an optima, and get that problem taken care of for good, but then theres the cost...Ill probably hit up walmart for an everstart. The battery cables I want are another 130$, but ill have to clean mine up and make do. In the corner nearest the fender, there is a build-up of white acid crap goin on, so ill take care of that one of these days.

Pretty soon I'll be on the road that lets me do whatever the hell I want with the car, just another couple of months...(crosses fingers)

I thought I would end at least one of my threads with a happy note.

I went and bought a new batt at walmart, and cleaned up the battery area, i had a damn bee's nest in there! While cleaning I found that I have another hole to fix, its right at the corner near the fender. I cleaned up both terminals and ordered a battery mat from zims. She fires right up!

The new battery came with a vent tube...Where the hell does that go? The other batt didnt have one, and I didnt see a lone vac line laying about.

I have to go and take something like the SAT's on friday so its a good thing i got her going, now all i have to worry about is getting the radio to work-stupid constant wire-

Since the battery is essentially sitting out in the open you don't need the vent tube. That is for if it is inside the car or a battery box.

Ok. I've seen other 944's with the tube attached, is there a reason for this at all, or just because they have it?

A vent tube? Where did it go? I know there is the drain tube from the battery tray, but I don't see why you would need a vent tube since the battery is essentially out in the open because of the back of the hood.

Oh, I don't know. My interstate battery didn't have one. You could probably run it if you feel like it, but it looks like it would get in the way of the plastic battery cover (if you run one).
