Default Clutch feeling Sticky

Its hard to explain, but when i'm starting off, my clutch pedal shakes a little bit, it did not always do this, and sometimes when shifting, my pedal wants to stick for a brief moment. Could this be an indicator of my master or slave cylinder starting to fail?

It could be.

My pedal would sometimes "pause" on it's way back up. It slowly got worse and the pedal eventually stopped coming back up all the way, and I had to pull it up with my foot every time I shifted.

I changed the slave first, hoping it would be that, and it was still there. Then I changed the master and the problem was solved.

Thanks, i guess thats what mine is doing once in awhile is
"Pausing".

Did your clutch pedal also shake briefly when taking off initially?

A friend of mine just had a pulsating (shaking?) feeling in the clutch pedal of his 968 and it turned out to be the throwout bearing.

Great, I know my pilot bearing is worn, because when the car is cold and its below about 40 degrees it squeaks with the pedal pushed in. I don't want to do a clutch job just because two bearings are worn....

Hell, I did a clutch job recently because the throwout bearing died. squeaked when the pedal was in or out... didn't shake though... but yeah, if the throwout bearing is dying, just do the clutch. if it dies, bad things happen.

Same problem as wallace, I was driving across the country and my clutch was a bit sticky, about 7/8ths the way there, it just got stuck on the floor, brought it to a porsche dealer and it turned out to be the master. was about $400 to repair.

Could anyone tell me where the cheapest place for a clutch kit is for an 86 NA? And what parts do i all need for this job?

And what happens if the throwout bearing DOES go out??

check www.paragon-products.com - but brace yourself, the kit is over $500 (IIRC).
They're great and knowledgeable folks there.

I recently did a clutch job with only the disk. I got a centerforce disk from performance products for about $225. When I got in there I found the pilot bearing had completely failed- it was ball bearing confetti when I pulled everything out. The flywheel and pressure plate were in good shape- somehow the ***** didn't score either.

and the accessory kit? http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/944cak.htm

How old are your speed and reference sensors?
Mine broke during removal (though in part from strong arming, I think) and cost an additional $400 for the parts alone. There's a cheaper BMW part number now, but I can't speak to its effectiveness long term.

I was looking through receipts from my PO, and my speed and reference sensors were replaced in 2004 with used units.
Here is a link to a cross referencing website with the BMW units. http://members.***.net/dnwong/porscheref.htm

But if i didn't need the sensors, the previous two kits that i listed are enough right? Theres no additional gaskets or hardware or anything?

Call and talk to Paragon on the phone to be sure, but in my opinion, you should be OK. They're super nice guys - even if you don't buy from them they offer a tech line. (But you won't be sorry if you DO buy from them!)
