Default Front license plate?

Sorry if this may sound stupid but how are do you mount the front license plate bracket to the front bumper of a 944? Do you have to completely remove the front bumper to attach the bracket?

Thanks

originally, there were plugs similar to drywall anchors that go into the holes of the bumper, and then you screw the bracket into those. i think

I see, do you know where I could get these? I don't think my bracket came with them...

I will say my front euro plate on my jetta is held on my industrial velcro from Target... it's been like that for 50k miles. It's cheap and works great... and that's just with a 1" square on each end.

original braket has bolts w/ nuts on the inside. Then the braket has inserts for the plate screws. You should be able to reach the back side of the bumper by reaching around the bottom of it.

If it's a non-turbo car then front bumper removal is about as easy as it gets. There are 2 bolts that are accessible with a socket & extension (a 17 mm socket IIRC). Unscrew these 2 bolts and pull the bumper out and carefully unplug the signal light connectors.

Thanks for the help everyone. I was able to get it on by cutting some license plate fasteners such as this one to fit into the small holes in the bumper.

That's good to know... I read this after I mounted the bracket so I ended up not taking the bumper off. Thanks anyways though.

i just was looking at an old pic of my car w/ no plate- and it did have the plastic inserts. I guess ive worked on too many cars that have been hacked w/ the bolt and a nut on the bumper.
