Talking I'M NEW TO 951'S AND MY TURBO WENT OUT. LOOKING TO UPGRADE.

Hi every one, I’m a new owner of an 86 951. The turbo went out on the car, yah baby excuse to get a bigger better turbo. I was looking to get the GT30R BB turbo, but I don’t know what I need to do to have 1) sufficient fuel/air, 2) what do I need to do to the engine so it will hold the boost, 3) is there any way I can move the turbo away from the intake? It’s kinda crazy where the turbo is on this car. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

1) 75# injectors, chips (at least), adjustable fuel pressure regulator (FPR), intake plumbing, possibly a MAF, so on, so on. I'd recommend Vitesse. he sells a kit with a MAF, turbo, and programming, and you can get a standalone and injectors from him if you'd like. it's not the turbo you're looking for, but it's amazing. people have pulled 500+ HP out of his setups without changing the head or displacement.

2) nothing, really... O-ringing the head and making sure you have a fresh head gasket wouldn't hurt... nor would rings... but you should be decent up front.

3)yeah, but it'll be crazy expensive. try this fun experiment. take your car on a dyno, do 3 pulls, then put your hand on the intake manifold... you'll notice it's not as hot as you'd think. Mine was luke warm at most.

Hooray for IC's

By bigger turbo, do you mean both sides or just one half? Keep in mind that a large exhaust turbine takes a long time to get up to boost. The stock kicks in at what, 3500? Anything larger will take longer to get to. You could make a hybrid turbo with a large intake side and very small exhaust side for better low-end power.

Or go sequential...

Wow that looks like a ton of work. Looks like he re engineered the whole drivetrain.

(4,001 wooooot)

I bet you could cut off the flange on the end of the torque tube and turn it a bit and reweld it and be able to do this..

That GT30R is a good modern turbo but is not even close to bolt on.

Your ???'s are better suited on the Turbo forum, HINT, spend an afternoon with the search function. Much of this has been covered extensively.

WOW....I havent been keeping up with the 951 scene. Who else besides Special Tool is now pushing more than 500HP?........and with no headwork or change in displacement?

If you head up to my place you can take a few different modified 951's for a spin and decide for yourself.

Hi every one I just want to say thank you for all the advice. I really do appreciate it.
From what I understood I have to
1) O ring the head to hold high boost.
2) It sounds like this Vitesse place has got the formula worked out so I’m just going to go with the stage III kit it seems to bee a complete kit.

Now what do I do as far as a fuel pump? And what about the block do I need to do any thing to it or is this the Supra of the 4 cylinders? Crank bearings? Any thing?

Jeremy Himsel please contact me info@carnexus.com
i would like to see what you have going i need to hit the track this season

Wow these cars are under rated. I can’t believe you can get in the 500hp range in an 80’s car.
(No offence any one) what I’m trying to say 50/50 displacement, beautiful styling and looks , and that kind of horse power, man this is the Supra of the 80’s. I’m very glad I got my hands on one.

Thanks again
