Default Whee to find Loctite 574 or suitable substitute

Can't find it at Autozone, Carquest, NAPA, or Advance Auto. They can't order it or find it in the books either

Anyone know what is a good substitute and where to get it?

not sure about a subtitute. possibly permatex anaerobic flange sealant? it says for tight fitting metal flanges same as loctite 574 but when I did my oil pump seal I just got the loctite to be safe as I don't want to do it twice.

I got my loctite 574 from my porsche parts dealer, was around 35 dollars and theres a lot of it in the bottle.

you can get it from pelican parts also and other online sites.

I used some kinda RTV sealant.... It's thicker and found it sealed better than 574 but you have to be careful not to get it where you don't want it because unlike 574 it will harden in the presence of air.

Similar to 574, just more resilient to oil and temperature. I used it when I resealed my motor, and no leaks so far.

Hey Michael I ended up getting some "permatex" anaerobic from NAPA. Apparently permatex makes loctites products and it is the same thing.

I was talking I think to chuck a couple weeks back and he couldn't even find the right sealant for the crank girdle and such. When he did find some they were priced around like $150.

Riddle me this Batman... how much of this stuff do I need to rebuild an engine from the bottom up?

autohausaz.com is where I got mine. $60-something, but I have enough to rebuild a few engines.

You can probably substitute many products other than 574 and get good results but with the availability of 574 (it's available at pretty much *every* Porsche parts place), why experiment ? That said, many people have had great results with Yamaha Yamabond (search for details). It might be more available locally - go to a Yamaha motorcycle parts counter.

For 574, try autohausaz, ebsracing, Pelican, Paragon, 944online, allzim.com, automotion.com, vertex, etc....
They all have it. The going price is $20-25 for a 50ml bottle.

fwiw, I got my permatex anerobic sealer for like $6 and rebuilt one engine, resealed another, and still have about 1/3rd of it left. No leaks so far..
