Total Parts value
Hello everyone,
I am trying to decide whether or not to part the 951 I picked up recently. After trying to figure out a low vacuum problem, I ran a compression test and I have 95-98 PSI across all four cylinders. It sucks but....
So, to all of you that have parted cars, approximately how much did you make after selling everything? How long did it take you to tear down all the parts? How long did it take you to sell everything?
Thanks,
Clint

Damn. Sleeve that motor and drop it in the S2... then sell the rest of the stuff! Win/win!
I parted an NA and it is a pain. You do a lot of work on the car and a lot of work boxing and shipping stuff. I did make some money but overall I would rather have spent the time working on my track car or 951. I do have a spare block now though, with a few scored cylinders... Personally, I'm thinking of doing what I recommended to you above

Clint, You might want to determine the cause of the low compression. since they are all uniformely low, id say its probably just rings or rings and valves. pull the head off, and see what the cylinders look like. if they are good, re ring it and change bearings. should be more than $500 total?

This was along the lines of the advice I gave Clint. Also if you wanted to throw another engine in there, there have been several great deals on 951 engines the past few weeks from about $1,250-$1,400 price range.

You need to determine the cause of your low compression, you need to do a leak down test and see if your losing it out the intake, exhaust, or oil filler tube/PCV system, the first two would be valve issues, the last being rings... If you need help, let me know,
It would be a shame to part it like was posted above, low compression isnt that bad news as long as the cyls arent scored. If you do decide to part, I would be interested in some parts and could help you strip it.

I'll try a leakdown test tomorrow and see what that tells me. I hope it's the valves because I don't want to pull the motor.
Thanks guys...
