This past winter, we were going to spend the weekend in the mountains and decided to take some dry firewood. I probably had 200# of firewood stacked in the back. Taking a left hand curve that I have probably driven 100 times the rear end swung right and I did a 180.

After I stopped, I realized I turned my 944 into a 911.

I think in one country the 944 were made like that because it was cheaper on the taxes

In Denmark they commonly do that because they have ENORMOUS importation taxes on cars like Porsches, often more than the value of the car. They frequently classify them as trucks to avoid some of the duties.

I used a 944 as a truck for a while hauling all kinds of parts and even engines. I have even used a 944 to haul 11 bags of 90lb concrete. It was bottomed out the whole time during the 9 mile drive. Danno is the current owner of that car and I am sure it still runs well.

Hehe-- the best my 996 ever handled was when I had a 944 block in the front trunk !!
