thanks. Its still under construction. I used 3d Max and the model itself is a mess, i'll post a wire frame image later. The whole thing was just eye balled from a side view picture of my car. i used the dark blue one just so the imperfections in the model arent so obvious.
I'd be happy to texture and render a model when you get a scan done, and if you want to include some high res pics of your car I could use them. Max will import a .STL (although I dont know how well).

I finally had a chance to laser scan a 951 model (I think it's 1:24 scale). The scan was about 4 million points, and I turned it into an STL, but it was about 150 MB. If I had lots of free time, I'm sure I could simplify it and get the file size down, but instead I cross-sectioned it in 3 directions and saved out an IGES file with the splines, shown below. The IGES file is about 7 MB, so I don't think I can upload it here. I guess just PM me if you want me to email the file to you (or anyone else). You should be able to import the IGES splines and use them as reference for your wireframe model.

VT, would TurboCad v12 have any clue what to do with the files you speak of?

Thanks for letting me borrow your model; I'll ship it back asap.

SolidWorks can take the point cloud or mesh file and wrap a skin around it. Let me know once you have it uploaded to Brian's site.

Sweet. I made a model of a BBS LM in catia this past summer when I was bored at work...did it the last week of work so I didn't have time to print it up on the 3D printer.
I know it's a long ways away, but if somebody wants to get me an stl file of a model I could print up a model on the 3d printer next summer.

The original post by cie-lab mentioned reverse engineering some parts, we run both ProE and solidworks and have a full machine shop so if we can help ?
My interest is that I want to put a super charger on my 944 and want to get an idea of the high and low pressure areas around the front of car.
We have a seat of CFD software and amongst other things consulate on aerodynamics and fluid flow so it would be a fun project but I don't have time to get the car scanned (plus I'd have to pay for that) and model it.

With 11 posts, i doubt this guy checks RL with any regular frequency. Has anyone done anything like this?? It would be awesome to see/analyze! I wonder what the change in aerodynamics is when you pop up the lights... etc.
