Default Could a Bad Ball Joint Cause Uneven Rotor Wear?

Hello,

I just rebuilt my control arms (Thanks Travis). One ball joint (DS) was completely swimming in the socket and the arm itself was cracked/bent/damaged beyond repair.

While I had the front end up in the air and upon routine front end inspection, the DS rotor is noticeably more worn on the outside of the rotor than the inside. All of the other rotors have normal/even wear. Anyway, I have new rotors in my near future (thanks Chris/Genikz).

What is the most likely candidate, a bad caliper or the worn ball joint? Does a worn ball joint have any affect on brake rotor wear?

Obviously, I would like to diagnose this before I put fresh rotors on.

Thanks.

Michael

I'm gonna go with the caliper. The rotor and everything that touches it attaches to the hub or spindle, which would move as a unit in relation to the ball joint. In theory your ball joint could completely fail, and not damage either of these components.

If the caliper's sticking, it could be causing uneven pressure on the pad/rotor surface, causing uneven wear.

I found caliper rebuild kits: $11 per caliper

could also be a colapsed rubber line holding pressure on the caliper even after you let off the brakes.
