I have no idea how many horses I generate, but I've got a li'l adapter in my tailpipe so people think I've got a turbo!

Okay, no, I'd never do that. Still I wouldn't try to up the output too much for fear of it being too much for the drivetrain. It ain't a brand new car, after all.

The way I see it, if it's horses you want don't get a 944. At least not an NA.

short answer is: no

long answer is: Anything is possible with enough money. Are you willing to spend 20 grand on the R&D it would take to get that kind of power? And would it be usable? Driveable? have any torque? Reliability? to these I say I dont know, but I doubt it.

You would be shocked at how much faster you can get your NA 944 with weight reduction. Couple that with coilovers, M030 sways and Big reds and you could get the speed you want on autocross courses.

Yes it is possible. Just like with what John said. RPM!, induction and compression. Could not have said it better. Not many ppl here have pushed the limits of a 944 N/A motor.

Simplest way for power is booooooooost.

If you want to stay all-motor, weight is your enemy. Weight of engine parts and weight of car parts.

You could spend 5k on carbon fiber, fiberglass and plastic parts for the body and lose 300+ lbs. Rip the interior, all the unneeded wires, and some stuff in the engine bay and you'll take another 50 or so lbs. Knife-edge your crank, drill it, get a light flywheel, an aggressive cam, a good chip, and a hi-flow exhaust and you'll weigh about 2400lbs and make over 200WHP (about 250 at the crank)...you could beat stock Vettes off the line. Youll also have spent enough to probably buy a vette.

asia944 doesn't want to know how fast a 944 could get. He wants to know how powerful it could get. I think if you did everything possible (light valvetrain, light pulleys, drilled crank, light flywheel, high compression, head work, cam, new intake, chip, exhaust... did I miss anything?) then you could easily reach 220 or more. But this is just my speculation. The most powerful 8v NA I know of is my friend's '89 2.7.

any idea hoe much a good head job will bring ti a a car 8% 10% 5% more hp, I install lightweight flywheel! car improve low end torque but loos some torque in 3 gear just minimun , I guess i free about 10hp, will the knive crack will do same for me or will be minimun! FRporscheman is right who has puss 944 to limits here?? again I know cost money, maybe too much 10-15k most people just go buy turbo, or swap engines, in otherhand there is some people here that have 2-3 porsches and have a special love for the one that is less value and less performance and just want spend some money in that car in this case a 944na ! bring the engine to limits, keeping same block 2.5 porsche!!! 240-250hp

John,
Is that the middle pedal? I guess so cause only use the two outside ones.

Head job = maybe 5 hp
Cat delete = maybe 8-10
headers = get the right headers 2-4 hp peak maybe 10 hp in the upper mid range
Cam = 5-8 hp peak, hard to say for sure depending what you want to go for.
Chip = you will need a custom dyno tuned chip for all of this to work. Figure 10+ hrs on the dyno

In the end probably could take a 158hp 88 motor to 178 hp if you took your time and developed it properly. Just bolting in parts probably would get you 5 hp max. The cost will be quite high since you need to custom develop everything. Lots of dyno time, probably trying 3-4 headers and muffeles to pick the best. $3000+ worth a rebuilt engine. If you work with shop and include development costs I can see spending 10k easy on this. There was a guy doing 944 NA race motor to SCCA ITS specs. These are restritive stock class rules so there are limite mods. However he claimed 183 bhp from a 944 2.5L 8valve motor. I figure with an open cam and few other changes 5 more hp is realistic. Costs will be quite high and this guy just retired.

Light flyhwheel and crank don't make and hp. They only improve the acceleration rate as there are a few less lbs of mass to accelerate along with the car. I did some calcuations and I think its about 8hp in 2nd gear dropping to about 2 in 5th gear. Of course this is only under acceleration and not under steady speed. Even then it assumes accel from 3500 rpm to 6500 rpm. The effect is noticeable a race track, but even then just barely.

Those are not carbs. They are individual throttle bodies.
