Default I'm a DADDY!!!!!!!....which means Car Seat Talk

Well...my boys can swim and new proud pappa of a lil baby boy named Daniel Matthew Guzman born at 3:51am on 7-15-07. I've contemplated getting rid of the 951 but I would love hand down this fabulous machinery to him. So rather that getting rid of lets make it practical. Who is running baby car seats here without problems. I have to put in the rear so lets hear from you brave souls who have figured out a way on not getting rid of your baby in luei of another baby. If not I'm thinking of trading her for a BMW maybe 740 series not sure which model but ala "Kramer" interesting trade offers accepted.

PICS of those who have done this.

Likely you'll have to wait until he's over a year old and in a forward facing seat to use the rear seats.

If your turbo does *NOT* have air bags, it would be legal to put a child seat in the front... but you'll hear all sorts of opinions about the safety of that.

Once your son becomes a toddler, he'll love the car!

Of course, until then, he can enjoy it this way:

First of all CONGRATS. Second, I am a proud father of a 9 week old boy so I can tell you that 'sleeping through the night' are those random nights where he sleeps until 4:30am. And to answer what you are asking about, I made a quick attempt to mount a car seat removable base in the back seat and there was NO way it was going to fit,, especially because of the curvature of the seat bottom of the 944. I cant even see how there would be enough room front to back to fit a rear facing car seat. The baby pretty much lays down in the seat and it takes up alot of space. My car does not have airbags so in a pinch I think I could mount it in the front seat. I bought a used Ford Explorer for our family truckster and kept the 944 for a commute car.

do a search....I bought the one I have ( can't remember the brand off the top of my head) from a thread on here...it's narrow enough that it fits right in the rear seat...but it's a booster , not a rear facing infant seat. It's perfect for my 5yr old!

Yeah...it's called the back seat!

Tip for new Daddies...kids get colds and it makes it hard for them to sleep...I found out that when my infant son had a cold and we put him in the infant carrier to sleep he would sleep through the night with a cold as he was slightly vertical yet still lying down. Keep that in mind.

At one point, I had both my girls in car seats riding in the back of my car. Had Century seats that had a narrow base. I ran the lap belts through the base of the seats, then ran tethers from the top of the seats to anchor points in the rear of the car. This was before seats had the top tethers standard.
I have pix somewhere, but probably not useful since the seats are so old and are no longer made.
But it can be done, and it worked great. I always kept the younger one behind me for legroom.

call up sunset, ask how much part number 944.522.051.01 is - this is a car seat for a child up to 4 years old - after 4, they have another option

Congrats! I have a 4 month old. The only seats that would fit in the back are front facing seats. Your baby has to be at least 1 year old before you can use those. There is no way a rear facing seat, which is what you have to use for the first year, will fit in the rear of a 944.

Congrats, man! If you're anything like me, you're soon going to wonder what people without kids do with their lives. It's a bit of a challenge, but surprisingly fulfilling.

Now for some bad advice - I can't help you with your infant, I got my car when my youngest was ~ 4 or five, but when I put her in the back with no car seat and buckled her up she looked a lot more secure than in any booster seat I have ever seen her in, so I broke the law and never got a seat for this car (didn't really ride them in that car that much). Even my wife thought it was ok, and she's a safety nut. I know it's illegal, and I don't recommend it - I'm just sharing as an excuse to say cheers.
