Check the metal cooling pipes. When I had the head off my 83, I saw that one was ready to rot through, so i replaced it with a new one. Easy time to do it, and it would boost reliability.

I have a literally brand new tensioner with 1 hour run time on it. Took the car around the block and decided to rebuild. I'll sell for $175. They retail for $250. I don't need it as I'm using a 924S block in my rebuild.

I've also got a used one in fair shape I'll "let go" for $25

don't forget a tune up, if you're in a spending mood.

do your water pump and rollers. since you are in there you dont want to go in again.

if you go crazy, do the motor mounts, which means you are next to the 20 year old oil pan gasket $100, which means you are next to the rod bearings $150, which means you will have your pistons in your hand and rings are nice $750. BTDT, then it was stolen a few months later.

The water pump is the biggie. order a new one from sunset. I dont trust rebuilt ones.

Replace your vacuum hoses and clean your ICV.

nibbles. i just ordered a new clutch slave and master for the turbo from paragon. it didnt go up once, and a i dont feel like seeing how long it will last. I signed up for a DE in a few weeks, and i want it mechanically perfect. I dont know which 944 i would rather keep. thats what is so strange. I like em both for different reasons.

the rings were really a waste of $$ in my case but since he was holding the piston in his hand I figured why not. the car had 75k miles on it, and i was going to keep it another 100k miles.

if you want to save some $$ order the tune up parts and motor mounts from paragon and give them to the shop. i wouldnt order the parts related to the head or water pump. your warranty is their markup. He shouldnt charge much for the tune up labor since most of the stuff is out of the car already, or in the case of the wires, half out of the car.
