The Cherokee chapter of the Audi club was dormant for a long time, and has only been doing the DE thing a couple of years. The events will get better as they go through the teething process and fill their instructor ranks.
If I hadn't already made plans for the weekend, I probably would have joined you. I heard late last week they lowered the instructor fee to $50.
Were you instructed or given a check ride during the event?

I had an instructor for the first two sessions. He was ready to sign me off after the the first session, but I convinced him to ride with me for one more session since this was my first time on that track. I had to do a lot of learning on my own. I really didnt like the line he showed me through turn 3, and it took me until the end of the weekend to figure out that I probably could have taken 5 just about flat out in 4th since there is lots of room on the other side of the curbing, but after spinning in 10 I wasnt really trying to push my luck.
I really hope that they get their act together because despite the adminstrative issues, we really did have a great time. I also wish that they would have had a tighter leash on the APR drivers, since they were pretty much doing whatever they wanted (not pointing cars by, passing without point bys and passing where they shouldnt have been.) and we were told to deal with it ourselves.

Its a company that does software tuning for VW/Audi/Porsche. THey had a couple of their VWs and 911s there and had them on track. They were an event sponsor but were acting like they owned the place. Just to give you an idea, on most of our sessions on sunday we had to wait 5 minutes for their cars to do a couple laps to get video. Of course this cut into our sessions a little bit. Once would have been ok, 3 or 4 times gets annoying since we also paid to be there.

Hi Randy, I sent you a Private Message about your question. By the way, congratulations on losing your 'X' earlier this month at Road Atlanta - I'm going to miss it being on the car when you pass me

As long as your spring rates aren't too high, you can get away with going over the curbing at 5 in fact it sets you up perfectly for the straight leading to turn 6. Just be careful as you're upsetting the car a little bit, and you've just given yourself less room for error...
As far as the APR situation, unfortunately money talks, and the club probably needed to have hefty sponsorship from APR and Jim Ellis to keep everybody's fees competitive with the other clubs. Fewer event sponsors mean those sponsors probably have more clout with the organizers and can "get away" with more.
Just hope APR isn't setting a precedent with the Audi club by doing that...

I just didnt like where he had me hitting the curbing. He had me hitting right in the middle, if Id hit them a little later it would have put me more on the right side of the track which I think would have set me up better for the left hander (turn 4?) Most of the cars in the advanced group were so fast I coudlnt really keep up with anyone. Despite the hangups on the administrative end I had a great time. I really cant wait to get back. I hope that cherokee does the event again next year, and hopefully it will line up so I can do VIR on mon-tues like I did this weekend.
