Default my alternator / A/C crank pulley wobbles

Im not too familiar with this engine yet but I'm learning. The two pullies are held on by the big crank bolt? Is it just a misaligned pulley or could it be bent? Hopefully its not a bent crank!! I have decent oilk pressure. cold idle is about 4.5Bar and hot idle is 1.0-1.5 depending....any ideas?

what is it wobbling in reference to? If it's the timing cover it could just be the timing cover is warped. Are you throwing belts?

Does the 944 have a rubber balancer in the crank pulley? If so, the rubber could be worn or the pulley came out of balance. It could also be mimicing the Miata's infamous crank failure, where the crank bolt wasn't properly torqued and you are now wearing down the key/keyway...

That's not to say that this is, in fact, happening but you asked for ideas...

if your pullys are both wobbling, either someone hit something with them or they are loose! I would definitly check to make sure they are tight- like 200+ lbs torque- before you loose oil pressure since that holds the oil pump drive in. If its just the pullys then im sure someone has a set.

944's are solid mounted to the crank, no harmonic balancer involved at all.

Yeah my PO had a "run-in" with a dog or something and at least one of mine is a bit bent I think. Are they easy to replace?

Believe it or not, its fairly easy to assemble that pulley wrong. I know I've done it. My theory is that yours is not centered. Sometimes this results in intermittant oil pressure too. You might be able to confirm with a mirror looking in on the crank bolt head...Bruce

Thanks for the replies! Its strange too. The only pulley that wobbles is the A/c one. the power steering appears to be straight as an arrow. Thats why I was wondering if maybe it was bent, or not centered somehow. On Rx7's, the pullies are bolted on the to eccentric shaft boss, so its easy to remove them by just removing the 4 10mm bolts. I looked on the PET and it looks like the A/c pulley is held on by 4 bolts, but its mounted behind the power steering pulley so do I need to remove the large ceneter bolt to get it off?

You are correct, the larger center bolt needs to be removed in order to take the power steering pulley off. You will need a 24mm or 15/16 deep socket to get it off. The a/c / alternator pulley is bolted onto the balance shaft gear. the balance shaft gear is a slip fit onto the end of the crank (there is a keyway for it). You will probably have to use a gear puller to remove the balance shaft gear if you want to take it off for any reason.
