The Ls1 V8, should still give you within 1% of your weight distribution, but thats just what i've heard.

I think the LS1 swap would cost around 6k from my research.

968 engine. No fab or conversion required - just 'plug and play'.

or a 951 engine.

or a 951.

Im not sure you should be sitting on the fence at 750.00 between your 4 cylinder and a V8.

If 750 seems hot, the finished conversion will charbroil you. The crapiest conversions are finished at 4-6K (gves us bad rep) while the knock-out examples flirt with 14-18K.

It should be noted that the LT and Gen1 kits are NOT available any longer. You are virtually stuck with one engine now...an LSx engine. Which isnt bad but...you know.

The trannies (NA) are worth 400 and snap easily behind an even mild V8. Ive exploded 3 now.

A basic kit from RH for the LSx is around 2100 BUT that does not include the "optional" things needed to finsh. Were talking an extra 1-3K that RH sheepishly hid in their "options" list. Thats without the engine which, a good example, should run you 3-6K complete.

Im not trying to talk you out of it. Its just that alot of people ask about dong this because of a recently blown engine and think they can undercut the cost of getting it running again with Porsche parts by installing a V8...which is wrong. It will cost a good deal more. Why? one reason (my problem) is that right when you finish the conversion, a few months down the road, you get use to the power and decide to install cams, injectors, TB's, megasquirt, a tune, bigger breaks, bigger rims to clear those breaks, roller rockers, valve jobs, porting/polishing, etc. And by the time you finish adding up the power....your tranny snapped and you end up on the fench again between 750 for a turbo box and a chevy tranny....and the cycle continues.

It viscious. But, youll never be beat!

Look for Joe (expuppy) at the Autobahn during the next couple weeks. He has a 944 with a nasty LS engine. Very mean and VERY fast. If that footage doesnt knock you off your fence.....paying 400 for a porsche water pump vs 30 for a chevy water pump should Good luck rebuilding the 4 and if you have any other questions.... www.porschehybrids.com

This is probably the nicest V8 944 I have seen, hence the asking price.

From what I've seen and heard, something you'll want to show someone will cost around 20k for the install and fab work.

Funny you should ask. I'm fitting an LS1 into a 968. The LS1 is the engine of choice as dressed the weight is only 50 lbs more than a 951 motor dressed and power starts at 300 hp with a near flat torque band. I have a welding/fab shop so the conversion isn't too expensive. I found a long block locally at a good price ($1500) and the accessories added another $1500.00, and I don't have a PCM or harness yet. You can go the Kit route and it will save you a lot of time or if you are masochistic then you'll do as I am and build, source it yourself. In any case its a lot of work. I wouldn't test the NA trans with a motor like that. They can hardly handle the stock power IMO!!
