Default GT racing hood

For my never-ending quest to save weight I am looking into the GT racing carbon fiber hood. I want carbon fiber as I don’t have to get it painted but the flip side to that is that it may seem a bit rice racer…. thought my car is black. Has anyone used/seen it? How is the quality and can I hook it up to the regular mounts?

how much is it? Ive seen the racers group hood and its very nice. Gt racing tends to be very race and less streetable stuff.

There was one for sale here for $400 recently. It had paint on it though. Not sure if it sold.

The GT carbon hood does not have a pretty weave, so you dont need to worry about the ricer rage. On top of that, I would NEVER run it without hood pins, it flexs like crazy and is not that much lighter than their fiberglass one. For a street car? No way.

Thanks for the input Mike. It even though the S2 sees some track time, its not strictly a track car. I will look into other options.

Their fiberglass one is a good option for a street car IMO. I've had it 150+ on a stock latch with no issues and the fitment is pretty good.

I thought that the Gt racing CF stuff is just for looks... it is backed up with fiberglass and covered in CF so there is really no weight savings

I just picked up a used fiberglass hood yesterday.... I believe it was made by AIR(but don't quote me on this.... I also bought some FG fenders from the same person, but they were new and I could see the AIR decal....I assume it's AIR because I haven't seen a quality part like from GT Racing). I'm pretty impressed with it, to tell you the truth. It's very sturdy, and light. It looks to be a quality piece.

Didn't Vic Elford drive that car? (the 917 in your sig?).

someone destroyed my P-cars hood by jumping on it during the summer, and I'm also looking for light hood at the moment. I know that GT-racing provides hoods for 968, but the manuf. quality is not as good as it could?

AIR-products seem to be better quality? Is there any shop in US or in europe who would provide AIR-hoods for Porsche 968? For me, Glassfibre is light enough, carbon fibre could be ok as well (if not too pricey), but I want to keep car to look as close as OEM outside, as possible. this means that hood should be same color with the car.

May be a dumb question, but if i recall isnt the stock hood quite heavy??? I was entertaining the idea of a lighter hood, but will it make enough weight difference to upset the balance of the car??? I wouldn't think so, but you never know..
