Default Cheapest/best insurance 944/ 18y/o driver?

my fiance's brother is looking to buy a 944 and ive been helping him look for cars. I think we have one lined up to get this weekend. He's been looking for insurance before he buys it and the prices seem pretty steep! Any younger drivers here that pay less than 200 a month?

Bought my car when I was 19 and paid/pay $125/mo. for full coverage thru Nationwide.

When I was 17 I was paying 2400 a year and that's a GOOD price up here... Some places wanted ~8000 for a young driver in a Porsche.

Dan,

Have him put it in his parent's name. Even if he buys it with his own $$/they never drive it, etc.

That's what i do, and save nearly a thousand $ on insurance each year!

+1. Unless that isn't an option.

My recommendation is to find a good independent agency to work with. A good agency can shop around for you and get you MUCH better rates than you can generally get by going to Nationwide/Progressive/Geico directly. I'm actually with Westfield at the moment, and the rates are great. Also, they use the NADA guide, rather than Blue Book when determining the value of the car. NADA is much more generous/accurate than KBB in my experience.

I would not put it under the parents name. His parents have alot more to loose in the event something happens and he gets sued. Being sued at 18 really isnt a big deal as you dont own a house, have a mortgage...etc.

I was paying $250 a month through Geico from age 17-19. At age 19 i got a slight discount and at age 21 another for having a clean record. I am paying $200 a month exactly now for minimum coverage on the car but maxed out coverage on health and liability. My rates would be even cheaper right now if my car had ABS...so it may be worth while to look for a later car that has it. Airbags are also a plus in the eyes of the insurance company.

Whats funny is a 951 equipped with ABS is $10 cheaper per month for me than insuring my 8v 944 with no ABS.

Does for me too, but then comes the "You can't autocross that car with my name on the insurance! You hit a flagger or a new 911 and I'll be in for it!"

Dan,
I had the same problem when I bought the 951. Called State Farm and was only paying $110/mo for liability only. I was 19 at the time, now I pay $56/mo for liability from state farm.

I must be the only person with a 968 and liability only. ~$100/month. I'm 22, and I had one accident on my record.

im paying very little for my truck full coverage and my turbo w/ everything but full coverage. He is finding it hard to get much less than 200 for liability only . I guess thats the price you pay for being cool.
