Default Stock Exhaust?

I am just wondering is this a stock exhaust for an '88 Turbo S?

Sure looks like it, does it have the crappy flat section right below the sway bar?

yes the pipe flattens out. It does seem wider than the 2.5" catback i was going to install, could the stock be a 3"?

I'm pretty sure it's 2.5, mine looked bigger than a 2.5 also (std. turbo), until I took the digital caliper to it. I never read that the S had a different exhaust. It's really heavy though, I'm sure it's thick gage SS. You'll be amazed how much weight you will save alone.

Looks just like mine.

Well, until you get to the turbo downpipe.

Took off from cat back and compared it to the 2.5 pipe i bought. It seems that the ring that couples the pipe to the cat pipe will not it in the openig of the 2.5 " pipe. Coudl this mean the stock pipe is bigger?

Those pics are better than the ones I saw before. Yeah it's stock.

Take a pic of the two pieces side by side.

I installed the new catback/borla muffler and 2 things are different. It seems quieter than the stock muffler and the car seems to have lost some pep. Any ideas? I did not install the gasket in between the pipes, coujld this be the reason?

Thaks for all the help.

Yes that is a stock exhaust and gaskets are important on turbocharged cars.

So could the lack of gasket make the car slower?

Yes it could cause a major exhaust leak, there is a good chance the two flanges are at slighty different angles and a gasket would fix that.

Cool so I guess I will try a gasket before outing back my stock system. Where's the easiest/quickest place to get a gasket?

I am assuming that a gasket wouldn't change the sound though? Still not as loud as the stock was.

No, that would be the muffler. Gaskets are avaliable at lindsey and pelican.

The only thing I can think of, is we never really figured out which Borla muffler it was. If it's a turbo style muffler rather than the straight through type, you would actually lose some power and get less sound.

It is a straight through muffler. Round not oval. It's funny, when I startedcar with the muffler off the car didnt' seem too loud. I thought to myself, I could deal with this.
