Default I want less sound...

Has anyone here made their exhaust systems quieter?? I like the sound of my stock exhaust but I think I'd like it to be a little quieter. Are there any mufflers/resonators(?) that I can have installed that won't affet the backpressure much and not lower the performance either??

I'd rather the car be a little less conspicuous and attract less attention. It's already a looker (S2 Cab Fan).

I just don't want the ricers to feel like they REALLY need to floor their swarm of lawnmowers at me at every light. I guess I'm just getting too old.

Altho a deep Chevy V8 rumble out of the 4 banger would be nice.

I wonder.. will a cutout type switch work for 2 exhaust systems.......

If your cat is gone, you can put a small diameter glass pack in there. But being in But being in Cali you prob need it for inspection.

Heh, not exactly a commonly asked question. Your best bet would be to add a small resonator or another muffler.

The exhaust is the obvious first place to look, but you might want to look at your intake as well - are you running a factory or aftermarket intake? Swapping to a factory intake might decrease the sound a little. Adding another small muffler to the back would also help, but you might experience some drop in performance

Alternatively, you could also sell the cab and get a hardtop - the metal blocks out sound better than the fabric haha

Are you sure this is the stock exhaust you're talking about, and that a PO didn't install an aftermarket unit or anything? The stock exhaust on my turbo can barely be heard at highway velocities.

The exhaust system is totally stock. The intake system is stock also. No exhaust leaks.

I've become a big fan of quiet but fast vehicles.

Since it's a cabrio I don't have much room for a sound system so I can't really turn it up. It sounds bad. I'm working on turning the glove box into a small subwoofer enclosure, I just need some time and a spare glove box. If not that I may custom build an eclosure that goes under the top on the rear deck like the one that JL makes for the Miata. I don't want to have to open my rear seats to listen to bass.

I might just order a Stainless, 4" OD 3" pipe, fromSummit racing, only about $80. It may be worth a try, if not I can install it in my Magnum....

I'd just like it a bit quieter. Stealthy....

I know what you mean, my 83 944 with stock muffler is fine, but my 85 Mazda GSL SE RX7 exhaust system is straight through, a race header and a pair of glasspacks minus the glass. I sold it to a kid and bought it back 6 years later. It attracts too much attention, so I want to make it into a stealth car. It goes like hell, is faster than the 944, so I have to figure out how to quiet the rotary rocket, not too much information on quieting down of sports cars! Supercharging the 13B motor is next project, 350 at the rear wheels sound interesting.

When my 951 was stock it wasn't loud, maybe its just S2s but then again a friend of mine had one last year and it sure wasn't loud.
