Exactly what work were you doing?

That may help us out... Are you sure it's not from another car and was just laying around your garage?

It's clearly a body-to-something mount, but I'm not sure what -- I don't recall seeing one on my car.

I've had my S2 completely apart and I don't remember seeing anything that looks like this.

Question: are the fasterners metric? Looks like it came from the chassis, what type of dirt/greese is on it? Is this a quiz?

Forgot to say that it does not go on my S2 Just checking if your paying attention

It goes on a '89 Turbo S and it was found after the rear suspension, torsion tube, brake lines, sway bar, half shafts, etc were removed, and no it's not a quizz I really need to know where it goes, don't know if the fasteners are metric and no grease on it. It's at the garage right now and I do not have access.

Is it the bracket that holds the fuel filter to the transmission cross-member?

That looks just like the airbox bracket.

Looks similar to the bracket that bolts the fender to the plastic bumper cover.

I had a similar looking piece on my car when I bought it. Mine was bolted to the frame on the left rear side and come up through the gap between the bumper and body. It was kind of a pain in the butt to remove...

I believe the part in question is part of the ski/bike rack system.
