Default Someone lost a box of nails in the intersection on my street...

As I was coming home yesterday I come up on the intersection of the main road way I live off of and there is this shiney mass laying in the road. Becuse of the grade I don't see it till the last second. Just as I get to it I realize

"OH CRAP, IT'S NAILS ! ! !"

I get as far over as I can and I make it through with nothing in my tires. Oh yeah the tires are 5 DAYS OLD ! ! !

So now I have to go out the other way which adds about 15 miles to my drive.

My plan is to go get a large number of magnets and glue them to something like a long stick and go down there tomorrow morning early and "Sweep" the area. I "figger" that as soon as the sun comes up (0630 or so) on a Sunday will be about as safe a time as any to get this done.

I am sure whoever lost these has no idea or if they did realize it made ZERO effort to retrace their path...

You can get tools from home improvement stores that are basically a long magnet on a pole. It is designed to pick up stuff like that.

Check to see if you local hardware store has them too.

EWWWW perfect. This makes me wonder how much crap I drive over everyday completely unaware... one more reason I am thinking of making the Porsche a completely "weekend car."

You can also rent sweeper magnets from tool rental centers.

Drive around it for a few days and let the Honda drivers pick them up :P

Or get a magnet-on-a-stick. Something that would work very well is the coil off an old subwoofer...superpowerful magnet.

Had a friend run into something similar. He was driving behind a construction truck with some guys sitting in the back (the ones that you wouldn't consider outstanding achievers in society). He noticed one of the guys was smiling and flicking things out of the truck. When he got home he found six nails in the tires of the trailer he was towing....People can be jerk offs sometimes.

HEY NOW!

I vote:

Some of us Honda drivers have the worst luck as it is. We don't need any more bad luck coming our way.

TAKE IT BACK!

The magnets in hard drives are incredibly strong. The magnets in automatic transmissions are also very strong.

If its a busy intersection I think you could tie a bunch of them together on a rope and use your super Porsche turning power to drive right up next to them in the intersection, then make a fast donut turn to swing the rope magnets out across the nails, repeat a few times. Itd be hard to explain to the police.

You had to say something..

I dodged a 6 pack of broken glass bottles left by the garbage dudes this morning on the way out...
Brown glass chards all over the road. I swerved to avoid it- alas I went out a few minutes ago to get the mail...

now my NEW LEFT REAR is flat..

If you were a real driver you could shift, stay in your lane and with your other hand reach out of the window with the magnet and get them as you drive by!

I work construction with my dad form time to time, sometimes doing clean up things. Like someone mentioned earlier, they make tools designed to do exactly what you or your town(?) needs, and they work exceptionally well, and very fast. So if you really wanted to be an outstanding citizen, that would be the way to go.

...and not to be an ***, but push brooms and nails really don't work too well for some reason
