Default MAF for 944 S2??

OKay... now I KNOW this has been discussed before so bear with me...
I've seen numerous MAF kits for 951s but none for an NA or an S2. Let's face it... the flapper box was abandonned when the 968 was introduced for good reason... it was (and is) a poor design. Regardless of the AFM's CFM numbers, the path of the air is obstructed.

So... anyone know of a solution? How about a conversion pigtail to adapt the 968 MAF to 944 harnesses?

I'm doing a MAF conversion. It consists of a Lindsey Racing ST1 MAF, custom piping, and MAXHPKIT software. Pretty soon Lindsey Racing will carry plug and play kits for all 944 cars.

We developed and tuned on the dyno a MAF kit for the 944S2 (the car was a 1990 cab). We saw gain across the board (in the teens HP & TQ at the wheel). Response was greatly enhanced! We modifed the software to incorporate a MAF transfer function (no external signal massager is needed), we placed the MAF where the AFM sits (I believe you can get better response if you place the MAF+cone filter where the air box sits.)
We supplied the optional pigtail adapter to plug directly into the factory harness.

At the moment we are holding off on releasing the kit as we don't see much of a market for it.

The 968 MAF is very unique, it's not something I would use for a MAF conversion.

Actually, I got a message from David Lindsey this morning stating that.. "The NA cars are real fussy about air metering. Our meters are sized for the turbo car so the calibration will be considereably off or different then what I believe the S2 would need. At this point in time, we have no plans to try to solve or work around that issue. You would be on your own there."

Well... umm... you dangled a carrot in front of me and yanked it out as I reach for it... Wanna contact me offline to discuss how I might accomplish what you did?

that's interesting.....

in their monthly newsletter a few months ago, they stated that they would be putting together MAFs for all 944 cars...

anyways, I'll still be going on with my MAF conversion as planned.

I am but one voice, but your MAF kit for the 944S2 intrigues me....

Yes... I was especially intrigued by the Lindey unit for the 951 because the price abour 1/3 that of others that I'd seen.

Which part of the conversion that intrigues you?

We have been doing MAF conversion for the 944/951 for years now. We took the S2 code, rewrote it to incorporate a MAF transfer function. Actually, we can support many MAF sensors, we just need the sensor calibration and that's it. Once the MAF was in place, we tuned the car on a load dyno to get some performance out of it.

The 944S2 software incorporates many interesting features. While the car is running, unplug the AFM meter, does the car run? Rev it up?

The S2 code is neat to look at, it's lie the beginning of a new generation of processors and programming. I'm not talking about the Fuel and ignition maps, but the software that drives it.

Well, you know a lot more about that stuff than I do. But, from what you said, I'd gather that the S2 had some unique qualities that made such a conversion (AFM to MAF) quite different from ealier ones (eg: 951 or 944 n/a or even the 944S).

Yes. Like that. Umm... please explain what I'm looking at... It looks like a 968 MAF, a pigtail and some plumbing.

hey i'm also a voice in the S2 maf conversion market. The AFM just seems like such an archaic peice of equipment and i'd love to rid my engine bay of it. Not only could you see hp increases but also weight loss

Yep.

Have not had a chance to hook it up yet. Also have more intake plumbing as I will be using some straight pipe as well. I sourced the silicone connectors and T-clamps since I will be doing my own install and will not be using the adapter that came with the kit. When I get it all together I will get my car dyno'd again and I'll post the outcome.
