Anyway, a decent source for bearings is MSC direct (link ) I purchased my bearings from here and they are marked as:

6006-2Z C3 GJN and are made by SKF

6006 = basic bearing number
2Z = double shielded, as you stated
C3 = clearance (and I agree that C3 is fine for this application)
GJN = "Grease with polyurea thickener of consistency 2 to the NLGI Scale for temperature range –30 to +150 °C (normal filling grade)" (Quoted text is directly from SKF.com).

This grease is a very similar formulation to that used in the HT51 spec which (again copied from the SKF site) is described as: "Grease with polyurea thickener of consistency 2 to the NLGI Scale for temperature range –40 to +150 °C (normal fill grade)"

In other words, HT has the same max temperature, with a slightly lower minimum temperature, but most of us won't operate in that range, so I think that it should be ok.

This is the closest I could find. I originally has purchased some other bearings but was not happy when I realized the grease did not have the same temperature rating.

(Take all this with a grain of salt, I am not a bearing expert)

Damn, it. I'm probably going to end up using these instead of the C4 units I just bought. The grease in the C4 units is rated to ~250F. That additional 50F seems like it would be worth it.

Just another thought regarding the heat issue: Since my TT is obviously out of the car, I am having it powder coated, but instead of the original black, I am going for a bright silver finish to help reflect a bit of the radiant heat - may not make a huge difference, but can't hurt either. Since the TT is out of the car, and usually looks a little old and ugly, even a decent spray can job might be worth the effort?

Unfortunately the MSC website does not allow that amount of specification, you actually have to call to confirm what they physically have (best to ask them to read the markings directly on the bearing to be sure)... Sorry, I had meant to mention that caution with the link, but omitted that in haste. Thank you for pointing that out.

MSC seems to have a lot of distribution warehouses and is BIG. There may be other vendors that are more convenient. As it was, I tried to find something up here in Canada, and not being an industrial customer made it very hard.

EDIT: Since I posted above, I checked the boxes my bearings came in, and they do have the JEM suffix, although, as mentioned, the bearings themselves are actually marked 6006 C3 GJN. I cannot find mention of JEM on the SKF site as a suffix (or prefix for that matter) but from a different source (some motorcycle page) someone stated that JEM meant high temperature grease... So MAYBE JEM is an old suffix? Anyway, the best is to call and confirm...

Update: There are now 14 944 sets remaining.

Gary Knox informed me that his '94 GTS has a larger diameter shaft (28 mm), so these bushings are not applicable to these cars. I do not know when this change was made, so please keep this in mind, if you're ordering for a 928.

I just received the invoice from the machine shop. I'll be sending in the payment, tomorrow.

I'm not a big fan of tying up everyone's money for a month, but I'm less of a fan of tying up a significant amount of my own money for the same time frame. With that in mind, I'd like to start collecting the money for these.

The total price will be $15/bushing + $1 for the padded envelope + $7 for FedEx Ground shipping ($68 for 944's, $53 for the 928 guys). Shipping calculation was based on sending a 1 lb package to my old zip code in MN.
