Default New Camshafts, Cam Tensioner, Timing belt, pulley.. Break in?

The Baltic S2 is back..! Ahhhh....

Question- With new Camshafts, Cam Tensioner, Cam belt, roller, Timing Belt, and Pulley.. do I need to take any precautions in terms of breaking the engine back in? Any things I should consider? I'm a relatively new 944 owner and am a little skittish about unknowns.

I was overly cautious about the Timing Belt/Tensioning issue and didn't know diddley about the camshaft tensioner pad issue... UNTIL it was too late.

Thanks in Advance!

wow! how much did that job set you back if I may ask? I see at least $2200 in parts right there. My P.O. had the tensioner fail if it makes you feel any better.

If this happens to you then buy your parts at German Parts & Restoration. www.gprparts.com

Dave saved me about a ton of cash in parts. For instance... New camshafts list at 950.00 ish each.. He got them to me for 550.00 each. He saved me $ nearly every part.

Great guy..

The tensioner pads at been checked at 70K.. Has 89K now. I'd recommend checking them as often as is feasible. Valve Cover gaskets are a heck of a lot cheaper than this folly. Total repair quoted was over 3K.. I sourced the parts my self and lowered the total cost to 2.2k.

From here on out I'm committing myself to learning and doing as much as possible on my own in the home garage. Part of the fun I'm thinking!

Crossing my fingers I don't run into anything quite this bad though!

You doing all the work yourself then?

I can hook you with a good local source for parts. Still would love a GTG to see that car, it looks great!

Maybe when we're both back on the road... I'm hoping for tomorrow.

Hey Schwank. I'm back up and running as of today! Motorsports Intl did the work. My goal is to become more proficient as a DIY'er so I can take alot of the future repair and maintenance needs.

I was going to try to make it over to PIR this weekend.. but I might have to watch the kids on Sat. Wife is doing some rowing thing. Not sure how long it last.

Let me know when you're back on the road.

We're out both days, in fact I'm only out there Sunday. Look us up if you have the chance.

Either way, I have just become fairly proficient in the 944 engine bay. Would love to look the S2 over, maybe I can show you a few things. And sometimes it's just nice to have someone around when wrenching!

Done deal.. If you could, PM me with your cell number and I'll ring you up if I make it over to PIR. I'm just a few minutes away.

Cheers,

Hey Vin, is this the S2 that was for sale in Maple Valley, WA like a month ago? Looks like the same one. I test drove it right around a month or two ago and the guy that owned it said someone from Portland was coming to look at it. I also saw your new ad on Craigslist . That is one sweet car man, sorry to hear about the tensioner.
