Default Need some street tires

Im outfitting my 944S for the upcoming spring and I would like some tires that will stand up to the rigors of autocrossing, everyday driving and still be driveable in the wet. I was thinking along the lines of yokohama, any experience out there?

I've had GREAT success with Falken ZX-512's.

I don't know what size your wheels are, but my tires are 225/60/15 and they're V-rated IIRC. The outer diameter is the same as the original tires so it won't mess up your speedo on an early car. These tires are unidirectional and pretty sticky, so they're good for all-around driving and can handle almost any kind of abuse (read: taking 90 degree corners at 50 MPH is no problem; they stand up to drifting too ;]).

What's wrong with the ES100's? While not the best tire out there from what I've read around here they seem to be pretty decent for the price.

I hope they're not that bad, as my new set is going to hit the track Sunday, most likely in the rain. I do have a second set of rims that are destined for RA-1's but the ES100's are nice and cheap for a street tire.

I'll let you in on a little secrete, well, not any more I guess. Sumitomo HTR Z, if you can put up w/ a 160 tread wear rating, meaning you'll be replacing them sooner rather than later, so cost savings goes into purchasing again and labor to get mounted. But they are grippy, but get greasy at end of long track sessions I have been told. Haven't had them out in wet yet. I am ordering another set before the price goes up now that the secrete is out.

I had a set of ES 100's on my 87 and I enjoyed them, only 1 track session and 1 autocross but still liked them a lot. I bought a set of Yoko AD07 for my 996 and I have to say that they are one of the stickest street tires out there...much better even than the ES 100s but a lot more too. The only thing in my experience negative about the Yokos would be wear and noise, not for everyone.

I've had decent success with Yokohama's tires, and I know a few people with the AD07's that are happy.

Kumho SPT
They're absolutely the best cheap tire you can get. Good in the dry, good in the rain, decent grip... had mine installed for <$400. do it

I like my Yoko AVS100s (I think that was the model). Great/affordable tire.

I just went through a set of ES100s. I'm going for Kuhmo ASTs which are H-rated.

I have ES100's as well as my friend's TT. The Porsche I don't drive much, and have the SFR exhaust, so I can't hear them. The tires are pretty loud on my friend's TT. The Es100 is stick FOR THE PRICE. They are a decent tire, but they just don't stick like other Yoko's I've had.

I got the yokoham AVID H4 tires on ebay for $270. For the same tires at tire discounters it would have been $430, they are realy nice tires for the money

There are very few BAD tires out there. However, relatively speaking, you can spend your dollar a lot better by passing on the es100s.

The biggest surprise for me is the General UHP tires that tirerack sells. DIRT cheap and handle wet/dry very well. Higher than average treadwear rating too. I had my doubts but they work very well on my friend's m3.
