Default Fixing armrest hinge?

Has anyone done any home-made fixes for the armrest hinge? My hinge is broken and I'm having trouble finding a replacement...so I was going to make something a bit more solid than stock. has anyone tried this?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of an armrest in perfect shape? I'd like to see how the hinge originally worked.

Thanks

I thought about using some high strength tape along the inside of the two pieces to form a new hinge. Then I though why not try a length of some kind of thin plastic or something like that to create a new hinge. Then I thought for $40 why don't I just get a new one? Still have not done any of these things

They are readily available, and not expensive. I'd rather spend my time and efforts elsewhere.

New ones are so cheap, there's no reason to bodge it up with a home-made hinge. To me, if I looked at a 944 for sale where someone cheaped out on something like that, it would make me wonder about the rest of the car. (just my opinion, no offense intended)

There;s a guy on eBay (picsaporsches) that sells them for ~$25. I'm ordering mine from him. I don't think that there is a good, long-lasting "fix" for the broken hinges that are so common on our cars.

Just replaced 2 today. They are under 40 bucks for a new plastic hinge assembly.

The plastic hinges are $30 on ebay. I've seen the brass hinge "mod" before, looks dumb but obviously most durable.

I sovled my problem using velcro.

I think I've seen him hanging around here also.

Well I just called my local OPC and ordered one for $33.30 Aussie which makes it about $25.70 US. Can't believe I waited so long to get one. The busted job was really pi**ing me off!

Didn't someone make some out of metal at one point?

Perhaps velcro, with a new hinge would help it last longer. Mine broke because I was leaning on it while messing with the dme. The velcro might help it resist the lateral motion from leaning against it.
