I reinforced my lid with fiberglass cloth and redid the vinyl on it - and I used a piano hinge. It all looks very professional - and its way more sturdy than originally. You can stand on it and hop up and down now and it will not break (I tried)! It probably only cost me 10 bucks worth of parts - but it took alot of time.

the car is all taped up for painting but when im done ill get inside and post some pics of the center console

I used velcro on the front and rear most sides for a while.
