Default Im sure this has been beat to death

but I dont feel like looking. :]

I have an early 85 944, love it to death. Hell of a blast to drive, balanced, powerful, and fast enough to put down Mustangs and Turbo Hondas.

But its just not fast enough.

I lost an easily one-sided steet race to a SLK Mercedes when hitting 4th. Gears 1 to 3 kept up with it, but the Benz pulled away with that second backwards clink.

And so...I want to put nitrous on it. N/A power kicks in about 3000, but below that I need more. Setting it up with a WOT switch to give some more power while in the low RPMs should help out, and will let the engine accelerate faster in 4th and 5th.

Only questions...wet or dry system? Any playing with the comp? Past experiences with damage?

I'd appreciate your answers and advice.

Thanks.

From what I've heard wet systems are safer than dry systems.

I thought the popular mod was converting NA from turbo?

If you really want it to be faster, swap an LS1 or sell the car.

If you are going to do it do it right, wet system. Same rules apply when adding lots of power to an engine, make sure it's in good shape, no vacuum leaks, no electrical problems, brakes, brakes, brakes, and last but not least don't whine when you blow it up. That being said I'd get an SFR super charger kit long before I thought about putting nitrous on a car http://speedforceracing.com/products...gers_944v8.php. A supercharger or turbo will make the car more fun to drive all the time and it's much more reliable and longer lasting than the bottle.

You've got the wrong car, and check out the adminstrator's post on street racing.

I wouldn't put nitrous on an old (assuming high milliage) motor unless you are prepared to spend lots of money on repairs when something blows up.

I actually finished rebuilding the motor in June, so its all new parts.
The car had only driven 66000 since leaving the dealer, but I rebuilt it in June just to make up for age.

And as for the cars beaten, think more around the 2000 model year Ford and a Prelude with a compressor snail.

:]
