The way I did Sam's lettering was by accident. It's a long story, that i'll tell in a minute.....
The candy red require a chrome coating w/ clear (2 sparate coats), 1 candy red coating, and 1 extra clear coating. Those 4 coatings are needed to make that specific candy red. Then the whole part needs a clear coat. So, yes, that's a 5 coating process.
the story goes like this....
I had put the chrome and clear coat on the cam tower, and was taping off the lettering and lines, because they were to stay chrome. I put on the candy red layer, and baked it, and then put on the clear layer, and baked it. After taking it out of the oven, I was to pull off the tape and clear it one more time. Well, since we have had low temps here in VA, I have had to bake the parts longer because the ovens aren't up to proper opperating temps. Well the tape adhesive was stuck to the lettering and it looked like a mess. So I took a sander and sanded off the letters and lines. It looked good, so I polished them a little.... and then shot it with a clear coat. It looks just like chrome but is a smoother and flatter surface, AND easier to do.

that looks great...for the record, I also have a very nice cam tower from Jesse - its all black - and I can't wait until I can install it (saving up for new cam and lifters to go in at the same time)

Would cleaning off a part and then just doing some coats of clear get that chrome look? Or do you have to do the sanding? (thinking about the intake manifold)

I can't wait to start building this lil' monster...

How much would it be to powdercoat my entire car, exterior, interior (the new seats and everything) and the engine bay a nice magenta color...? lol
Bill - I tried that...I took a wirebrush to my intake manifold and polished it up, then put 2 clearcoats over it...looks alright, but you can still see the pits from dirt etc. If you want a real good job I'd go with his powder coating...I would have if I'd known about it last year.

Colors that are NIS cost extra. Minimum orders are 5lbs. of powder. The powders HAVE A SHELF LIFE. Nemesis is doing a COMPLETE engine, so he'll need 5lbs. of powder.
5lbs. of powder is WAY more than you need for a cam tower, intake, and fuel rail. And if no one else wants the color and it expires, I take a big hit to the wallet.
email sent bill.

damn- i tried to do a candy cambox on my red car w/ some silver and testors model paint but when i sanded the letters afterwards i messed the paint job up...so i went w/ normal red. Next winter when my motor comes out all my stuff will be sprayed w/ the real car paint so she'll look hot- gotta keep up w/ sammy.
