Clutch Master Cyl leaking ... how long do I have ??
I've got the leaking fluid in the drivers footwell, and the clutch stays down, but can be "pulled back"
The clutch still works, it just has a lower pedal
Will it survive a little while till I can replace, or is it not a good time to be on the road ???
I just had to replace a blown CV axle last night and I want to make a drive to LA (2 hr each way). I don't want to get stranded.
Has anyone had one that leaked but remained operational for a month or more ???
I would like to replace the slave at the same time etc .... and I have to wait till I have the $$ and the time.
Thanks again
Don

3 days, 17 hours, and 42 minutes. Give or take a few seconds.
You should get it replaced immediately before it leaves you stranded somewhere.

Not only might it leave you stranded, but the clutch can start to drag at stop signs, etc., and shorten its life. Change it asap, and don't be temped just to change the master -- do the master, slave, and hydraulic line between them all at the same time. If you just change the master, its very common for the slave to go bad shortly thereafter, and then for the line to start leaking.

Well, I'm keeping it off the road (well within 5 miles of home).
I have a rebuild kit ordered from Kragen ($21) will be here in the AM.
I'll rebuild it tomorrow hopefully.
I'll have to do the slave at a later time, no $$$$.

I had a leaky master one time and I waited about 2 months (about 500 miles maybe) to fix it. I had a soft pedal, but could pump it up. Pedal never stayed all the down so maybe it was'nt that bad. I topped up the reservoir a couple of times.
It was tricky to bleed after I put a new one in. There are some good threads on that, do a search.

Go ahead and replace the master cylinder, hydraulic line , and slave cylinder all at once.. I tried to just replace the slave and hyd line. The master cylinder wasn't having any of that crap!!! It wanted retirement too. Car was down ANOTHER week waiting on it!
