LSD on an 83?
did the 1983 944's come with LSD?
if not, i can purchase a rebuilt one for 200$ canadian, seems like a really good price.
how would i go about checking the quality of it (other than hooking it up! LOL)
cheers.

You could order the 83 w/ LSD. If you can find a rebuilt TA, LSD or not, for $200 CD you should jump on that deal. I can't even find the LSD section of the transaxle for that cheap. You can turn the input shaft while holding the axle outputs and check for excess play. Trying to check the shifting on the floor is not easy.

Torsen type are no goo for track use. Reason is they don't lock up on decel and this is a MAJOR benefit of the LSD. Lock up on decel in corner entry allows you to trail brake more effectivly thus gaining and advantage. The impact on accell out of a corner is minimal compared to stability underbraking from the clutch plate type LSD.
