I think they may have changed the cam timing on the 928 record car. I think they later used this setup on the stock GTs, so I would say your average street 928 was pretty close to the record breaker. 928s are not the lightest cars, but top speed is dependent on drag more than any other factor

Muscle cars ain't for cornering...they are for burning rubber and running from light to light. In its day, it was the fastest 0-60 mph production car on the road. Period.

Its still damn fast, even today. A buddy of mine has an 84 Monte Carlo SS...balanced, etc, etc, etc....would blow the doors off most Porsches on the road...in a straight line that is.

I always show respect to my elders.

I wonder if there are parts available to make these cars handle better.

Speedracing... nice shot! thanks!

Just for the record... the truck was the Syclone, not the "Cyclone" (to be technical), and ran a 13.5 quarter-mile off the showroom floor!

...and that was with fulltime AWD. I hate 99.9% of American cars past 1972... but I love that truck!

I have always liked the GN's. One thing I have noticed when looking at them is that they are very prone to rusting around the wheel wells and the bottom of the doors. Even ones w/ 7000 original miles and sitting in garages their whole lives.

Funny this thread popped back up... I've actually been thinking about getting one of these for $13/14k and seeing if I could double my money on it in 10 years or so. They have a rabid following, and it seems like a car that a lot of folks are going to want at some point.

Sort of like that 72 'Cuda for $4k that I passed on in High School (1999)

DP Porsche,

Thanks for asking:

"How does you car drive? Sounds like it'd be a lot of fun!"

Well the car is a blast, literally! Over the winter I'm putting new higher flowing heads in it because the stock pocket ported ones are only really good to 5500 RPM. Plus it just makes too much torque at 2500 to 3500 RPM (560 Ft lbs at the wheels) . I am hoping to move the curve out a little.

I am also putting in a wide band O2 sensor setup.

Micah Jones

You are right on!
The Buick GN is now considered very desirable and officially the last GM muscle car!

I have a warning plaque on my 87 GN "warning this vehicle is capable of extreme acceleration!"
The suspension hooks up so well for quarter mile bursts! Good thing is is only a straight line and there is plenty of room at the end to slow down!

My 924 with the GN only does 12's in the quarter but at 124 MPH. I'm really hoping for 11's this year.
After all it has 100 more HP and 1000 les lbs of weight!
