Buick Grand National

These are really nothing more than Regals with turbos, see how those held up and you'll know how these held up. One thing to think about is that most GN's were beat to inches of there lives.

They are a straight line car. Don't expect to do too well going around curves. As far as reliability....ditto on what the others said.
There is a loyal following though....check out your local dragstrip.

You know what I've learned in my seven years here at Coolidge... Timmy? I've learned that you can't treat every situation as a life-and-death matter because you'll die a lot of times. Write that down.

Reliable... well, I wouldn't use it as my daily driver. Would I want one in my garage? Hell YEAH! They are fast as all get out. Very limited production and becoming fairly rare. Last I checked the value was starting to climb for a good condition one. That's tough to do for any American car of that generation.
If you look for one, be aware that there are many imposters out there, ones that people have converted over to look and act link GNs but aren't REAL GNs.

Cornering? It has a bench seat - can you get less support for corners? I mean honestly, it wasn't designed for that.

But when you have 13" slicks on the back and 4" tires on the front, cornering probably wasn't the priority.

The Buick GNX was quite the sleeper car. (Think Grand National on steriods) IIRC, it was the fastest production car made of that era.
Not much of a handler, though...

The GN is the epitome of the one-trick pony. It can be brutally fast in a straight line. That's it. Anything else you could ask of it it'll suck. Braking, cornering, stopping, really anything at all it's horrible. More body roll than Oprah and more chassis flex than a convertible Solara. Don't even get me started on the ribbon speedometer, LED tachometer and boost gauge. It was a pity the GNX dash wasn't the standard for the GN. GM made some of the worst dash layouts in automotive history in the 80's, and the GN was just another victim. Aftermarket dashes are available for about $1000 though, and if it were me I'd have to upgrade that.
Of course, to true GN lovers 1/4 mile speed is all that matters. I guess for some people that's good enough. It'd be a boring world if we all had the same tastes.

My bro in law owns a T-type Regal, which has the same motor and body as the GN. Anyway, the motor is so fast, it wants to tear the car in half at the door pillars!! There are cracks there to prove it too!
Handling - think Streets of San Francisco car chase! NO handling at all!! But the car is way powerful. From a roll, it is scary fast. Too bad that motor is in such a POS grandma sedan!!
