Default Going to pull the 951 engine today..any tips?

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for pulling the engine on a turbo.. anything at all would be appriecated. I may be tempted to work fast because its so damn cold outside so need something to keep me in check. Scare me!

oh yeah, the head is off. You guys thinki I should drop it out the bottom w/o the head or bolt it on while pulling it (still have old headgasket to use for that too)
thanks
mike

is the exhaust off? if not- have fun. Youll need to remove the down pipe on the drivers side and the cat pipe along w/ the wastegate pipes. I would drop it out the bottom anyways since thats how you may have to put it back in...

goout the bottom it's much easier (I've done 6 now) the steering shaft can be pita especially going in. Just yank the calipers and remove the 4 nuts from the struts up on top. a few PS lines. remove the crank pulleys as they will hit when getting the driveshaft past the bellhousing if you go out from the bottom you can leave the turbo and downpipe on just remove the testpipe. have fun!

Leave the head out as you can use only a floor jack to drop it out the bottom along with the crossmember and the steering rack all in one piece. The exhaust will be a major pain in the butt and a real retarded design but you will need to take it off to get to the torque tube bolts. Leave the crossover pipe in there and drop the whole thing all at once. If you have pictures of top and bottom of the engine and how much is already removed, I am sure we can get a better assessment.

take it out with the torque tube still on it, exhaust too ( take the muffler off) lower it onto a good doyy and roll the whole deal out.
take the bumper off, the header off, the radiator and condenser out(if possivble) removing the lower rad support (bungie the condenser if needed)
take the intercooler out, lay the pipes on top of the motor, remove the front control arms off the car, hang them off the spindles
take the tranny out and the rear suspension down (it can hang out of the way with the ebrake cables still attached, disconnect the brake hose) so the tube comes out
lower the engine with the tube on the front cross member, roll it out, THEN start taking the exhaust off...no busted knuckles or studs

Go out the bottom. Lower it too the floor on something you can slide the engine on (crossover, headers, turbo, crossmember, probably even the steering rack can all stay on). You might still have to remove the rad, rad fans, and headlight mechanism to get the engine forward enough to get off the driveshaft. Once its on the floor, lift the front of the car up using the engine hoist and the two black tiedowns on the frame rails and slide the engine out from under the car.

Use jackstands with a more rounded top and put them under the torsion bar tubes.
