How many relays did you replace? Come to think about it, I replaced the "X" relay and nothing happen. You have to replace the other relay too in my previous memo.

i plugged my cluster in three times before it would work properly. i plugged it in- didnt work- unplug, replug- worked but lights didnt work- unplug, replug- lights worked. FUnny. Make sure they are all plugged in correctly. Also- sound like your oil pressure sensor is backwards- although if you pulled the wires off they only go one way unless you pulled the spade connector off too....

I found the problem. the back of the cluster is screwed up where the connection is for the center two gauges. It is kind of torn. I am not sure how to fix this.

The back also has a few holes in it. soder would be too large. I think I need some kind of very thin copper strips. (or just get a new inst. cluster back.)

The tach reading comes from a separate 4 wire plug connecting to the DME under the passenger foot rest. The Speedo senser is on the top left side of the transmission

The Tach does not come in through the harness? There is only three harness plugs that go in the back of the cluster.

Just look at the car. The part number for VW is 141951253B. I bought (2) relays the same part number. One was for the "X" relay "G-14" and the other was for ignition relay 15 "G-2" I have a 1985/2 944.
Thanks, PP! Worked like a charm. Speedo and odo still not working, but nice to have tach, oil, etc., back!

Does the middle connector control the tach, too? Wondering before I pull the cluster...again. My tach is working, but speedo and odo are not, so if it controls both tach and speedo, and speedo is working, then it's plugged in correctly?

If so, is there anything else I should be looking for that would cause this?

Success! Removed the dash again and unclipped and re-hookd center connector. I noticed when I unplugged it that it was in snuggly BUT in forgetting how to unplug it, I pushed the clips inward ainstead of outward. I realized that not only do the connectors need to be snugged on, but also the connector's retaining clips need to be pushed inward.

Only thing is that the speedo needle seems really slow to settle still. Not having much to compare it to since the dash has been flaky the entire time, is this normal?

i would take a piece of wire and solder it in between each of the pieces of the panel that are broken...

Default paging dave

dave, you said something about a seperate 4 wire plug in the DME. I removed the computer and only see the one large harness on the bottom of it. I saw a red 4 wire pug but it was plugged into 2 wires not going to the DME.
