Default Rear insert panel

My car came with the rear "Porsche" insert and I think I'd prefer the stock look. Since I'm not sure how it's installed, I'm wondering what it would look like if I pulled it off (i.e., was anything done to get it in there that would look bad if it was pulled)? One of the bulbs is out anyway, so even if I kept it on, I'd need to get in there to replace that. Thanks!

It will leave 4 holes, usually poorly drilled that need to be filled. It looked like mine were installed by a chimp(PO), the drill bit walked all over the paint but I loathed it enough to just put plastic plugs in there for now.

Pull back rear carpet. It should be bolted in from there. However some even put goo around it to adhere it to the rear as they have a tendancy to warp.

Basically you will be left with four holes that need plugging(and probably rust protection

^ What they said. On my old 951 I just got some rubber hole plugs from the hardware store. Those might seal a little better then plastic ones until you do something better.

Great I really think it looks better w/o it, but maybe I'll wait to oull it til it's in the garage for the winter and I can have the holes filled and painted. It kills me when people drill holes, cut wires, etc. in these cars because they're never the same afterward. In the mean time, is there an easy way to get to the bulbs?

Speaking of holes. Should there be a hole in the bottom of the spare tire wheel well? Looks like a drain opening, but a lot of dust gets in there.

i just took mine out, reran the wires to the stock lisence plate lights, and welded up the holes- alittle filler over the welds on the outside and spray bombed the area between the lights until i have time to spray it the right way...

now i need to fill the holes in the bumper w/ a tig welder and paint everything.

not to mention the holes left over in the bumper for the license plate when you move it back up to between the lights.

Yes, it is warped!

Is it fairly easy to get a new bulb in there, and can someone tell me what size bulb it is?

Thanks for all of the responses. I'm debating whether to get the car repainted (the FLorida sun was not kind to it, so it's somewhat of a Monet), so if I do, I'll pull it.

THATS to bad! It looked much better on the before pic! Though, I have to admit, I prefer the one that says "PORSCHE" on it over the "944" one.

Don't mind me..............I'm just "stirring the pot"

Yes its a drain, go ahead and plug it, that wont hurt anything (as long as you dont have a leak)

In all honesty, your car looks GREAT!! I like it!! I do like the personalized plate too!

To each their own, ya know. Your doing just fine!

czar,

As far as what it "looks" like. I'm sure you've seen these and other pics, and the bottom line is.............its up to you. Yes there are gonna be some holes to contend with, and fill and fix, but go for the "look" YOU want!

Do more checking, nothing wrong with that! Do a search here (if ya can), and you'll see TONS of info and pics too.
