Yes, I moved the ground because I was too frustrated to attempt putting it back on the bell housing because I almost dropped the nut into the opening at the top of the bellhousing and, well, the situation was deteriorating rapidly and an alternate plan set into motion . . . .

I feell you on that. Still haven't located the ref. sensor bolt I may have dropped in there. Every time I work in that area I have to recruit a friend with small hands to stick some tape in there. Saved me a mfew times since. Try and fish it out with a magnet or take out the starter and check ther.e I couldn't find mine in either and I'm dreading the day I start the car ( soon).

I put the new ignition switch in and as my luck would have it, not the problem.
What next, I'm obviously a glutton for punishment.

Well, it cranks over, seems to start for a few seconds and dies.
Ran fine, nothing was wrong until the day the POS would not start.
Temp gauge seemed to get a little high the last time I drove it - might check that sensor, but not sure why.
Someone mentioned DME relay or something?

It sounds like the AFM is unplugged. I see that it looks to be plugged in on the photos, but maybe you should pull the connector and check to ensure it is clean and is making good contact?

I bipassed the fuel pump relay, heard the fuel pump a runnin' but the engine would not start.
Wife came home at lunch, she cranked it over and I pulled a plug wire - it is a sparkin' -
I'll try the ether tomorrow ....
AFM eh, may need to test that as well, factory manuals have not proven real useful or I havenot found the right pages yet....
Nice car, sadly, it probably needs to go away . ...

Got down to basics - Check air filter, all OK.
Ran another ground from battery directly to engine, no difference.
Fuel pump and flow good, getting spark -
All connections look good, checked them all, cleaned the AFM connections.
No vacuum leaks, "J" pipe and stuff are all new -
OK, from the top:
Engine cranks over, starts then dies -
How would I test the speed/reference sensors? Hate to spend $300.00+ to replace them and not have it fixed - and are they both the same part number?
Time to read up on those - any other ideas appreciated

Crank sensor going bad will cause you not to get spark. Get a can of starting fluid and spray it while you crank. If it continues to run while spraying starting fluid, your problem is in the fuel system. Then you will have to check your fuel pressure or injector pulse. Check with starting fluid first before anything else.

Are your injectors firing? They make a soft clicking sound when they are working, or you can get a NOID light made for Bosch injectors at Autozone or whatever is around there (about 3 bucks). This is an LED thingy. Unplug one of the injector connectors and plug it in. It will glow when the engine cranks.
