Nice work. To be really, really complete (what I would still do) is make sure the signal path from the AFM output (pin 7) does indeed get to the DME connector. But that's me.
I would pull the AFM connector, pull the DME connector and measure continuity from pin 7 to the correct pin on the DME connector (ohms, preferably in "beep" mode on the meter). This might not be as easy on an early's DME as it is for my late, though - I just don't know how easy it is to get to the early DME.
And I agree with your plan to go after those hincky looking connectors even if it turns out they're unrelated to your current issue. They might get intermittent on you and then you'll go nuts (two issues, one of them intermittent...).
Cheers.

Regards,
I checked and that does seem to be holding up quite well. At least the "cold weld" (OK - JB WELD!) does appear to be intack.
Funny you mention it, I almost posted a picture -
But some things are best forgotten . . . .

Scott, thank you -
There is something I need - from someone, and can paypal payment.
OK, how to describe this - CV Joints - CV Joint Bolts - there is a little plate that acts like a washer and goes to two of the bolts, I believe there are three per CV joint under the 6 bolts -
I need one of those.
Missing one, I remember when I found it, wondered what it was and then tossed it . . .
Anyone have any idea what I am talking about, seems so hard to describe something so seemingly simple!

Great!
You could mail one or, if coming through, drop it off.
My goal is to come down when Jim and Candy come up, at the latest, I could pick it up then.
I have washers in there now, no huge hurry -
Are you aware of using washers only causing any damage?
New fricking CV axles, hate to harm them .....

I feel like a kid -
Came home late for lunch, missed seeing my sweetie. A guy came in and wanted a windshield installed on his new bike, nice guy, why not.
We had 11 machines dropped on us for set up out of the blue, had to re-structure and re-group the day, but hey, only one needs to be done today.
Maybe two . . . .
So, a case of the blahs had hit.
I come home, back in, and at the door -
MY PARTS ARRIVED!
See, acting and feeling like a kid.
Of course I want to installed them (new reference and speed sensors) like now - but I decide to wait. Wait until I bring home the proper extensions, joints and other tools to do the job correctly.
And I plan to block that hole in the bellhousing - you know the hole, prior to starting work. There, I said it now I have to remember to do it.
Take a deep breath - eat some lunch. Come home, shower, leave for the kids strings concert, come home WORK ON THE 944!!!!
Oh yeah, I forgot this feeling - it's good!

Oh yeah, now this is how I remember this car.
Nothing simple.
R&R the sensors, fine.
The bolt that holds the sensor closest to the firewall stripped the hole out in the sensor bracket.
I was using 1/4 drive stuff, being extra careful, just perfect. I have no clue as to how this stripped, the bolt seemed to come out fine and I used hand pressure only trying to tighten it.
Must of stripped on the way out, it was tight initally.
Plan is to try a bolt with a slightly larger thread.
Anyway, had them, both in, tried to start the car, same thing.
Crank it over, starts and dies immediately.
Jim Cooper mailed another DME relay, I'll try that.
Wish me luck on that f*ing sensor bolt ....

Hey - I am going to try a longer bolt first-I think I see threads down further -
Still does not get me running, but one more thing ruled out.
My van managed 8.6MPG last tank ....

You know, it is nearly impossible to reach that hole, not sure why I thought I could tap it.
Hopefully the DME relay arrives, if it does nothing, might be time to let this go . . .

Perhaps after you deal with the stripped threads, your next step would be to turn to the DME itself. I had a problem that turned out to be an open solder joint. I had it fixed by Systems Consulting in California. They are a sponsor here I think.
Over 20 years or so, vibration can crack solder joints. The circuit board material is fiberglass and flexes and the solder is rigid and does not. Depending on what cracked, you can have strange symptoms. Good luck.

Thanks
I need more than luck right now, man, what a roller coaster . . . .
I am thinking, even if/when I get this fixed, what is next?
I have $20K+ in this car - when do I stop!
AHHHHHHHH!
Now that I thought about it, that is not really a lot of money to have or put in a car over several years.
Could of been a lot worse!

Worked like a champ!
Re-tapped the hole, tried new bolt, first one was slightly too short (wanted to try the shortest one possible for the weight savings, you know) but luckily I had brought another longer one.
Issue still persists:
Crank car over, starts then immediatley dies.
Man, the old sensors were is horrific condition!
I'm happy - fixed my major concern, the stripped hole, back to making this mother run again!

Mailman came while I was home for lunch. Installed relay sent (which looked suspiciously like the headlight relay) and no luck.
Double checked the contacts on the DME relay, looked OK.
May try jumpers (fuel pump) again tonight to see if that does it -
I really want this running again, for several reasons . . . .
