Default Clutch job, parts are here.

Im taking my car in next month for the dreaded clutch job ( $2500 )
and wanted to know if I should have them do anything else while they are in there.
I bought 2 new yellow koni rear shocks from paragon that im going to have them replace, I was also thinking of transmission mounts. Where can I find some OEM mounts at a reasonable price?

Any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Im sure they are going to do it but make sure they replace the rear main seal once the clutch is out. Also are you using the stock 944t clutch? If you are going to be doing upgrades for more power eventually you may want to stick in the cup clutch while its all apart. Just a thought!

Thanks for the reply Sam,

Whats the differance betweene the cup clutch and stock 944t clutch? And how big is the price differance? Is this the same clutch they put in the 944 cup cars? Are they less or more durable then the stock 944t clutch?

I know i know, lots of questions but thats the only way you learn

Yikes! that is pricey Antonio. Is that a dealer quote? Have you talked to Terry at Euro Motorworks?

Try Dan at World Class Car Care on Bash Road in Castleton. He was recommended to me by a guy in Fishers that buys and sells low milage 928 GTS's. He is reasonably priced and will let you bring your own parts.

Sorry to hear that, are you positive it needs to be replaced? You may want to do you clutch Master and Slave cylinders and associated lines at the same time if they haven't been done already.

While they're in there?

In addition to the clutch and pressure plate I'd be sure to do the pivot fork bearings and the throw out bearing for sure.

The cup clutch comes with a more agressive disc. The 930 disc is also an option - Magown has had both Cup and 930 and can't really tell the difference. Paragon has them both available along with the stock Sachs kit. How much do they want just for the parts in that estimate?

$2500 does seem a bit high for just the clutch. I had my master cylinder and slave cylinder replaced while they were under there replacing my clutch and my bill only ran $2400 with them both added in parts and labor.

Good luck,
Scott

You might also check out Autocar Sports & Classics- they came pretty highly recommended by one of the 928 guys at the Indy meetup earlier this year...

im going to do my own clutch master and slave this weekend, and if that doesnt cure my clutch slip issue that is kind of on/off, i'll prob need to do this as well. I'll be doing my own but does anyone know if there are any problems that would cause the clutch to slip FOR EXAMPLE ive heard the throw out bearing will hang up on something sometimes and cause it to not fuly disengage. Im thinking that its something like this because it will not slip under full boost sometimes but other times itll slip w/ half boost. Its even slipped driving easy in second but then when i shifted and floored it the clutch seemed fine!- BTW - replacing clutch master and slave because they are leaking...

Dan,

I was also told about the throw out bearing getting hung up by my mechanic. He said it was a possibility but ended up being fine once the car was apart. Ended up just being my rubber centered clutch split right down the middle to make 2 equal rubber discs. I did need the master and slave cylinders changed though so I'm glad I got it done.

I agree about the price. I don't see that the turbo's clutch would be that much harder, but I payed $1300 for my 84's to be done.

If the 86 turbo has the one piece crossover pipe, then it requires also removing the intake manifold and crossover pipe. It is a big pain in the ****. Book time on a turbo 1 piece is around 18 hours. If he has the two piece, then it drops the time to around 12 hours or so IIRC. Booktime on an NA is 10 hours, but it takes about 5.
