Hey guys, I'm looking for a decent car to drive daily so I can take the Porsche off the road for a while. I came acros a 1990 Audi S80? on Craigslist, its local here in Tucson. I didn't know there was an Audi S80, maybe he means just Audi 80, but W/E. Heres a link, what do you guys think? Reasonable price/reliability?

I love my 1995 Audi 90 CS, although I doubt it has much in common with that old 80S. If I were you I would spend a little more money and get something a little newer, I don't think old Audis were especially known for their reliablity or quality. Back in the day we had a Audi 5000 from the 80s and were lucky if it ran for more than a week at a time. My 90 CS hasn't been nearly as reliable as my 944, but it's not the worst. If I had to buy a DD from the 80s, it would be Japanese! My old MKIII Supra and 2nd Gen RX-7 got me through my teen years and didn't miss a beat. I changed the oil and was good to go....

I dunno- 5 speed with the little 4 cyl engine. Would be a fuel miser.
It's not a "real Audi" in that it isn't a quattro-5 cyl car but it has more character than a Golf or Jetta of the same vintage.

So whats the verdict, is it really a FWD POS, or is it just FWD, and not really a POS, I'm not looking for a 944 replacement here so the drivertain setup is not an issue to me.

Having been around Audi for a long time... for that kind of money, if it runs good and feels solid you can't really go wrong. If it lasts a year you got your moneys worth out of it. They are decent cars, good on gas and with a little bit of suspension modding can handle quite well.
Go check it out with cash in your pocket. Offer to buy right now (if you like it) for $1000 cash. And then negotiate from there.

If you need a reliable DD, a BMW e30 over that thing any day. I drive the **** out of this car everyday and it only gives me smiles. Routine maintenance is all it takes. You can also find them close to that price range. The 80 is such a sled with its 108hp powerplant and isn't really "nice" by any means.

Even at stock boost, the car was faster than a 944 S2 through 60 and the 1/4. Chipped to 15psi - you have a 280hp 951 killer. Not the most reliable car though, and parts are very expensive.
