Default Car wont pass 944 fest tech.

Ive been trying to find the 944fest tech sheet again but I cant find it anywhere. Im very strapped for the duckets and im not sure if my car will pass.

The suspension is up to par
The brakes are new
The car run right now, just got some heat shield rattle.

However it has an Oprah Vagina of an oil pan gasket leak. When I let the car sit overnight and drive it the next day, it smokes something fierce after all of the oil has burnt off of the crossover. Ive also marked a parking spot as my territory, its full of oil spots and no one parks there anymore .

Will an oel leak fail tech? If it does I think I might have to drop out of the track run. I dont think I can fix an oel pan leak by the time 944fest rolls around.

It all depends on the amount it is dripping. My oil pan has a small oil leak (just enough when it sits over night it drips about 4-5 drops on the crossover) but not onto the ground unless I let it sit for a couple of days. How much oil are you going though between changes?

Tech sheet here...

http://www.944fest.com/updates.php

I think you can leave the suspension connected to the xmember, just remove the xmember to chassis bolts, and voila it can drop low enough to clear the pan. I could be wrong though. I doubt the tech inspection will pass a visibly wet pan or drips on the ground. Some gunk/sludge is fine, but if you can wipe away liquid, I think it's a fail.

Re torque the oel pan gasket- the bolts DO vibrate loose. this process can take a few hours- dont rush it..
when I replaces my gasket I used loctite (blue iirc) on the bolts to keep them in place.
Do you see the gasket bulging Rock? the sig is frikkin' killing me BTW

Dumping any fluid on the track is a BIG no-no, so Dan and I will be watching for it (Dan is the tech lead and I will be helping him). Do us a favor here, we will try to get as many folks on the track as possible, but for EVERYONE'S sake, we have to make sure you have a safe car so don't get mad at us if we find something we don't feel is safe. Do what you can to take care of this stuff NOW, and it will make it go a lot easier the day of the event. The tech form is specific about who is allowed to sign-off on the car. If you getting your tech form filled out by a shop that participates in local PCA events, you should find out at that point if your car will pass the on-track inspectoion or not.

If your car is smoking while you drive it, thats an obvious problem. If it smokes for a minute or two when you start it up, but it burns off in a minute, and doesn't smoke any more after that, and it doesn't have any obvious wet spots on the bottom of the car, you'll probably be okay. If it makes you feel any better, I have to do a head gasket/front engine reseal on my 951 to take care of some leaks that I have, so that I too, can pass! lol

Regards,

Hmmmm its not a terribly big amount. When the car is running all of the oil will hit the crossover pipe and burn off. I think im going to try and arrange a replacement then...

Then try to retighten all the bolts on there as well. I would tighten them the same order you are suppose to put them in. I was able to tighten some of mine just last night on the car, so I can see if that will help any. You can check Clark's Garage on order and how much force.

I have a light leak as well. I think my powersteering is going to be the problem.

rock dont try to crank those down, youll snap them off. If you can turn them w/ slight pressure then they are loose but dont crank them very much. If its a minimal leak (IE not going to get on the track and hurt someone then i could care less, but if you stop in the grid and there is a puddle your not going out. ) Dan as per your email you can line me up w/ whomever you like doesnt matter. When will the fun run be with ride alongs? Is that scheduled yet?

and for gods sake everyone make sure your battery is tight and put something over the positive terminal weather it be the plastic cover or some duct tape...im tired of people w/ bungy chords and no covers!

Tis isnt very bad. Unless the car sits for a while then its not noticeable. My fear is that it might become worse

Mine leaks too, but not near enough to cause any smoke. That would drive me crazy.
