Default What was your first DIY project?

My first completed project was replacing the broken arm on my sunroof. Used parts were ordered and it took a couple of hours, once I got started.

The second one took a month or so to start and 15 seconds to finish. The dash lights for the parking brake did not work. The repair involved plugging the wire into the connector on the pull handle. duh

What was your first completed DIY project?

I think it was when I got bored and painted refinished/painted the front grill on the '82 Nissan Stanza I was driving in high school. This was around 1990.

my very first or my first on the 944? Very first was a 79 mustang...put a front end on it, swapped the interior out to black, put wheels on it, rebuilt the top end, dropped a rear end in it, new gas tank, brakes, sway bars, painted it, stereo and exhaust...

944 first thing i did was sunroof gears, muffler, flapper door upgrade, total respray...

I built a work bench in high school. Still have it.

On the 944 it was a lot of stuff...

The first was driving the car home and getting it off the ground. From there I rebuilt the calipers and replacing the rotors, new shocks, timing belt and rollers, balance shaft belt, waterpump and some minor body work.

After that I really got serious.... DME, motor mounts, trans rebuild (ring & pinion), clutch, brake master, clutch master and slave, rear hatch reseal, rebuilt the P/S rack and pump (thanks Rennbay!), front wheel bearings....

1st DIY project ever was probably a foot stool I made in cub scouts.
1st car DIY was swaping the front clip off my '69 camaro when I was about 14
1st 944 DIY was timing belt BS belt, rollers, water pump, cam chain tensioner & cam chain etc.

My first 944 DIY?
Fog & side marker bulbs (gee! that's whimpy!), followed shortly by replace power steering pump and hoses including 944.347.459.03, 944.347.455.05, 944.347.432.08, as well as replacing the left steering rack boot and left tie rod end (that's better) :-)

I made an exact working replica of the Panama Canal complete with pumps, ships, and correct marine life representing both oceans. Actually it was a painted pine cone.

On the 924S it was nitrous
On the 944 it was replacing power steering rack/pump.
And in between a whole lot of minor things for both. Mostly cosmetic, but a cat here and an a/c compressor there.

Matt H drove all the way over to do my fuel rail replacement. It wasn't really a DIY considering I just watched as he worked away.

The actual first thing I did all by myself was the dadiator replacement and then shortly afterwards a complete engine rebuild.
