BTW... I have considered a cayman S to replace my 951. However when ever I look at the cost it just seems so silly. Really! New Cayman S is like $65k very lightly optioned. So my 951 is worth what 10k. So spend an added 55k for what? More hp? Mid engine coupe.

A chip gets me the same hp as the Cayman S and while the Cayman chassis is superior is it 50k superior? Me thinks not. Hell better to stay with my 951 and put 5k into maintence and upgrades than to burn 50k on a Cayman. Hell in 5 years I'd bet the 951 would be worth at LEAST 10k if not more while the cayman... Maybe 25-30K. That is one hell of alot of depreciation to suffer.

I was thinking of more in 5 years when there are some used Cayman S's around in the market. I wasn't going to compare a used car to a new car.

Tough to say in 5 years.
By that time the Cayman will be an old used car. The 951? Well maybe on the way to classic status. Then again it just may be an even older used car? Too many factors to really understand this move. I got my 951 back in Feb 1997. At the time I figured I would "trade-up' to a boxster one day. Well over the years I have decided that trading to a boxster (even S) from my 951 is not such a good deal. At this point after owning my car for almost 10 years I think I will have it for the long haul and probably another 10 or 15 if not more. Who knows what will happen in 5-10 years, but I will probably just keep it.

If I am short on cash then I will keep it since I can't afford anything more. If I have lots of cash then I probably will keep it because I can and maybe just get another newer car as well. Then again I may need $$$$ then have to sell off everything. Probably not.

Really though I think the next 5-10 year are going to see some intersting values for the 951. The $$ in the market may not change, but I think interest will peak. Right now the 951 market is mostly value or low cost buyers. Hell it has been for years now. Most folks buy these cars since they are cheap Porsches. The 951 has the ability to make good power too, but in the end 75% of 944, 951 owners are proably "buying all Porsche" they can afford. In 5-10 years 951 buyers may be buying the car because of the car inspte of being able to afford much more. Many folks that could buy new are looking at late 60's and 70's Porsche buying them because they are "cool" and have an appeal the new cars do not, not because they are cheap.

With that happen to the 951? Hard to say, but even now it is interesting how many folks I meet in the Porsche club with 996's say "I had one of those 944 Turbos back years ago. I never should have sold it!"

I have been thinking alot about this lately....
I would like to convert my S2 into either an e30 M3, e36 M3, or an early M6. Or... Perhaps a 911SC.

Ditto on the 540i statements.
My 944 would lose the garage space to a new BMW 335i coupe. too bad those things will cost almost 50k!
for what it is worth I will keep it around.

My 944 has been evolving from a daily driver to a track car as things break and gets removed or replaced. I'd want something that's more purpose-built: Lotus Elise/Exige

Some of your replacements are no-brainers. ls7 z06 over a 944 - can I sleep on it?

They are right hand drive only, and they pass emissions tests no problem here in BC...the US might be different. I see them all the time on the roads more and more here. I guess the only hangup is learning to drive RHD on the right hand side of the road.

These pics are from an Atlanta import show, so who knows...

I really want a black version of the R34 in the last pic (with different wheels of course)

Dollar for dollar I can't think of anything I'd rather have.

If I consider something more expensive, than obviously that would change things. But the next step for me would likely be a 968 or Boxster, or possibly a 3.2 Carrera.

We built it custom for about $6,000 total and the car runs away from Ferrari 360 Spyders

Also, if I had to replace my 944 I would have to do it with a custom setup volvo 240

If I HAD to replace my 944 because of some unfortunate event, I would find another one just like it.
