I thought you were required by law to have orange turn signals and/or white reverse lights.
Has anyone recieved a ticket or recieved a warning about them from the "man" ?

I have had my turn signals this for a long time now.. never recieved any hassle or had problems from police or passing state inspections.
On the other hand, if you have a really hardcore state inspection and made the reverse lights red also..you might have a problem. But frankly on the road most police could probably careless.. for all they know its one of those funky dual layer lenses like on the 968

Mike- thanks for the input.. I think I'm going to try it- I've had two cans of the paint for years...
How are you guys painting them??? Are you removing the lenses or are you painting them ON the car...? Are you painting from inside or outside...? also, using any type of sandpaper? how many coats to get the yellow to turn red & not be nooticeable...? Oh yeah- IF you're painting from the outside, like I assume, are you doing anything to cover the lines inbetween the squares, OR, are most of you just painting straight over them too...? How tough is this to do & make look good...? Some I've seen have looked better than others... several on the 1st page look NICE!!!
I honestly think you'd almost have to TRY to get busted for the red reverse lights... 968 had ALL red tails- not sure about turn-signal, but the 968 did have white reverse lights below, I believe... Still, almost impossible to get nailed for red reverse lights I'd bet- I think I'm going to do it... I'd stil like to see a silver car w/all red if anyone has them...
TREVOR- haven't seen you in a LONG time.... How have you been...? Is that your 944 in your avatar...? I'd love to see a few pics of the front headlights you have enlarged a bit... I'll PM my e-mail addy just in case... What happened to the 968...?
Thanks

i taped mine up on the car- you can put some masking tape over the black edging and press it into the gap with your fingernail. Clean the surface w/ some mineral spirits or something close. Take some adhesion promoter from the local auto store- its like glue for paint, spray it on, let it tack, spray a second coat, let it tack up, then spray the red over that. Use the Testors model paint candy apple red-traslucent paint- and fog it on lightly until it covers and the lense looks like it matches the rest. Take your time if you rush you could run the paint. I also put a coat of clear over the red to make it shiney like the other lenses, just some duplicolor clear from autozone.

its like laquer thinner but not as harsh...like nail polish remover. If you use something like laquer thinner just dont put a whole lot on there and wipe it off right away, your removing wax/oil and not plastic!

thats too funny, a guy from the 914 boards was saying he got pulled over for having euro taillights which are amber on the outside and red in the center.

The law requires that reversing lights must "show" a white light. What colour they reflect from outside light is unspecified and -as such- unregulated. Several vehicles have "stealth" DOT-Approved reversing lights:
Likewise, the turn signals must "show" a light which is either amber or red at the rear of the vehicle. The reflected colour is also unspecified and unregulated. Many off-the-peg DOT-approved cars have silver turn signals which illuminate amber, either with LEDs or filtered light.
The VW Jetta MkIV and the VW Passat B5 all have red-reflecting, amber-showing turn signals:

The specification for colour reflection on the rear of the vehicle that I'm aware of is that there MUST be a RED reflective section on the vehicle... As long as you don't get in the way of the reflector, you're basically okay.
Putting a blue light anywhere on a car is an invitation to law enforcement officers to call up a few friends on the radio and have a good time at the driver's expense. Putting blue bulbs in the turn signals is like asking the police to butt-rape you. -Flashing blue lights, for pity's sake! -Funny, most of the cars I see doing this are Honda/Mitsu/Toyota, and they're usually pulled over, with the driver being hassled... -I wonder why...!![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
