Default AC or no AC when driving in traffic?

Today was the first hot day here, and I ran AC. Traffic was very bad, and it was stop and go for half an hour. The engine temperature went half way of the scale (2nd bar), while it usually stays around 1st bar. I don't know how hot it would get if I kept driving.
So the question is whether AC on makes the engine hotter (heat release from AC makes the water radiator warmer) or colder (both funs on all the time)? Under stop and go condition, with almost no cooling from the air flow from the speed of the car.

Yes, the AC condenser heat will slightly elevate the ratiator temps but not to the point that the car will over heat. If it does, your cooling system is not 100%. You can test this by letting your car idle in the driveway with the AC on full blast. Watch the temp gage, it shouldn't reach the red zone.

My '84 hits the second tick (pointing straight up) with the A/C on in stop and go traffic. The additional load from the A/C compressor on the engine makes it work harder.

My 924 runs at half or more all of the time because the temp sensor for the fan is bad. I HAVE to run the AC in traffic so the fans come on ot it will overheat LOL. Too bad my Ac is busted too.

So maybe I don't have a problem. I'll keep an eye on it though.

using a/c in my p-cars seems to rob much more power than using a/c in any of my other cars. whats the deal with that?

Cus the 944 is a under powerd car to start withso any other drag is noticed. I know what you mean, When I had A/C on my 924S and ran it, sure it would be nice and cold but the power lose sucked, I swear it had to be like 10hp lose, Thats why I no longer have AC ;-) I figure just take the top off and windows down and drive fast

Any idea what's wrong with it?

Some power loss is normal, but excessive loss can be caused simply by disconnected wires to the auxillary valve (behind the air box).

Epic, it is out of r12. It has not been converted and by now i'm sure some lines have dried enogh to crack. SO I will have to pay the hook-up fee then replace lines. r12 is $4.50 an ounce and it needs 40 ounces. Honestly, i don't mind too much. So long as I have the roof off, it's not bad. And it prevents many people from asking for rides.

Amen! I'm about to drop $900 on a rebuilt compressor, R134 conversion, and labor--my AC will be running in the winter!
