crate it up and use a shipping company. probably costs about 3-500.

edit.. btw, used a shipping company to ship my 912 engine to california for rebuild. it cost about 500 each way, which is why i say 3-500.
a 944 gear box is probably as large or larger than a 912 engine too.

btw, if you do ship it, make sure all the fluids are drained or the company wont do it (no matter which comapny you choose).

i used AIT world wide logistics. im sure if ou do a search on yahoo you will find their info

You can ship it for under $150 using fedex freight. Try to ship it to a business address if possible.

I put mine in a tupperware tub from WallyWorld (less than 20 dollars), packed styrofoam peanuts around it, and shipped it for about $150. The lady at the UPS store thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen.

I sent a trans from cincy to northern cali or somewhere out there on the west coast for 87 bucks each way. I did a trade deal with DerCupMiester a while back.

I shipped a Gas Gas 250 engine in a large plastic cooler, worked really well. Post up the method you end up using as I'll be shipping a tranny one of these days when it sells.

I shipped a tranny from STL to LAX via Forward Air for 72 bucks. I just made a small pallet with 2x4 and then used plumber strapping to hold the tranny down. Forward Air goes from airport to airport, so you save a lot of money using them.

I've shipped 3 of them via UPS. I found some heavy duty cardboard boxes that were used to ship industrial pumps in. Fit like a glove, tons of padding too.

I seem to remember it was around $125-130 or so, and barely made the weight limit for UPS.
We had daily pickup and a good discount, I'm sure it would be alot more at a UPS store.

I've heard of problems shipping with ups, namely for insured items, they must be packed adequately to withstand a 10 foot drop. A guy on the mustang forums shipped one UPS and it arrived cracked. I've also seen a bigblock chevy camshaft broken in half shipped UPS.

We use fedex Freight at work and have great luck with them.
